What did you learn today?

I learned via YouTube how to take off the waistband on a pair of jeans, alter it to fit and put it back on. Now I’ve got two pairs of jeans that fit both my waist and my hips. Gotta say it worked like charm and was more fun than trying on endless pairs of jeans searching for that elusive fit.

I learned that while watching something on YouTube if you press the spacebar it pauses and pressing the spacebar again restarts it.

Alternatively you can use the keys j/k/l —- j goes back 10 seconds, k works like the spacebar, l goes forward 10 seconds. Much easier than trying to use the mouse to do this!

Tonight I caught up on this weekend’s Barrett-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale recorded on my DVR. This Brabus Porsche sold for $1,000,000.

At that price they would have to throw in a driver for me!

And a garage, attached to a house.

And an appointment to have someone’s head examined.

Believe me, not at that price level, but DH attends every year, and I have to remind him to look but not touch. This year, he and his buddy were eyeing a well-priced 20-year-old Bentley in mint condition that went for less than our Highlander. :woman_facepalming:

My Rule: You MUST Come Home in the Vehicle You Left In! No exceptions.

I took this picture of my TV. This wife just realized her husband bid $1,000,000 for a Ford GT. LOL!

My husband was telling me about that Bentley. His favorite days are when the driver cars are auctioned, and this was a highlight.

The first few days of Barrett-Jackson are a great time to get a deal on a nice car. Friday and Saturday you need big money to play in that sandbox.

I have several friends who go to a huge bike swap & sale up in Denver every year.

Their rule is a corollary of yours: You must come home with fewer bikes than you left with

What I learned today: there are critters living inside the walls/ceilings of this house. Heard them scrabbling around inside my ceiling for the last 2 nights.

(Not raccoons since the raccoon catcher, who rid the house of the 3 raccoons living in the attic when the family moved in, came back and re-inspected the house last month. He said he didn’t find any evidence of raccoons.)

Yikes. :scream:

Roof rats? Rats in the attic are a common occurrence here in my area. They can leave nasty, stinky residue that is hard to get rid of. Also can chew wire insulation which is not a good thing! Call the pest control guy.

We have had flying squirrels - they are not quite as bad as regular squirrels because they don’t tend to gnaw on wires, but they can settle in and have babies and come back year after year. We were able to catch 9 of them in a week with the HD small critter traps and some peanut butter. My husband had to drive them to his work (about 20 miles away) and let them go in a park because they are supposed to find their way back w/in 30 miles. The last one he let out a hawk swooped down and got it before it made it to a tree…sadly.

Not so sad for the hawk, of course.

Did you know that flying squirrels fluoresce? We learned that not so long ago after watching a documentary.

We had a nightmare with flying squirrels last year. One flew right over my shoulder in my home office and scampered up th chimney. They were in the walls outside our bedroom. Sounded like carpenters in there scratching. I still have nightmares.
