I don’t think it ever came to fruition. One of the many “rumors .
I learned that one of my toilets kept running because a hose slipped off. Now that it’s fixed, I have taken pictures of the inside of my toilet tank so that next time it happens I can get new hose at the local hardware store and fix it myself.
I learned that a moggy is the cat equivalent to mongrel for a dog. IOW, a moggy is cat of mixed, unknown parentage. A random bred cat.
Apparently moggy has been the dictionary since the 17th C, but I’d never heard of It before.
I grew up with moggy as a synonym for cat like that (and also meaning a little crazy, like a cat that has the zoomies). But Americans don’t seem to know it. I think it’s more common in the UK and the British-variant-of-English-ex colonies. It’s constantly annoying to me that it’s not accepted in Spelling Bee!
7-11 is named for the original hours it was open, which was thought to be innovative!
Yesterday I learned that there is actually something called “ exploding trees”. This occurs when liquid ( water, sap) inside of trees freezes and expands causing the tree ( or branch ) to explode.
one more thing for me to worry about.
And Motel 6 was named for the room price per night. ![]()
Not sure that was well thought through, since now it would be Motel 5999 or more depending on location.
Not to mention Motel 8! I forget what you got for that extra $2.
I learned quite a bit in the dentist chair today about how ocean currents and global warming affect sea life nutrients. They were playing an episode from Netflix’s Our Oceans; I think the Atlantic episode.
My Safeway grocery store “digital deal” item qty limits are per sale (which can last many weeks), not per visit. The track it via phone#/app.
It was my second mahjong class and I got my first mahjong, with a little help from the teacher looking over my shoulder.
Sounds about right… there isn’t a room under $1000 in San Francisco during a large event like the JP Morgan conference. ![]()
Trees can also explode from a direct lightning hit—the sap vaporizes, rapidly expands, and POW!
Cat Stevens Father & Son lyric - “You’re still young, that’s your fault”
I used to wonder if I heard the line wrong. Turns it out that “fault” here is meant more as “flaw”. In other words, it will take some time for the son to grow into his full self.
I saw a car I’ve never seen before and learned a little about Brabus, a company that can make a Mercedes or a Porsche even fancier!
There is also Singer Vehicle Design that works on Porsches, but they are more rare, and more expensive.
I learned how to restretch a sweater that was shrunken in the wash. Not something I wanted to learn, but helpful non-the-less. Will be putting the knowledge to use later today.
I have used this hack many times. Once my daughter’s apartment building’s washing machine was broken and she ended up with a pile of soaking wet clothes. She planned on taking them to a laundry once they dried (they were too heavy to transport wet as she only walks places where she lives in the city). Once they dried all her sweaters had shrunk. She painstakingly did the stretch process for each sweater. It did work!
You soak the sweater in a sink of water with baby shampoo to loosen the fibers. then stretch it into shape before drying flat (on a towel). You can continue stretching during the drying process until it is the size it should be. It does work and is kind of amazing to see happen.
Last evening I learned that 40 minutes is the maximum time I can be outside when it is six degrees below zero.
I also learned I need warmer gloves/ mittens.
I learned the peas actually contain protein. I always liked them but assumed they had marginal nutritional value. Nice to know!
I actually stocked up on low sodium canned peas to eat as low cal/ high protein snacks. Then promptly forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder
