I learned that Cristopher Radko ornaments made after around 2005 are not really Radko! He sold his company (and the name) to a competitor out of necessity and had to sign some sort of a noncompete contract. There is now a nasty legal battle between them, apparently. His real, designed by him stuff is sold under the Ornament King brand!
I know I have at least 1 music snow globe thing I bought from Lord and Taylor with his name on it. What year I got it is a whole nother question :). The music stopped playing a long time ago ![]()
I love his ornaments. My DH’s work colleague had an entire Christmas tree decorated with Radko ornaments. I looked up Ornament King and it looks like he filed for bankruptcy. So sad.
Not what I learned today, but what GD learned. GD is 12 weeks old today and rolled from her tummy to her back!
It’s all chasing her around from here! ![]()

Sounds tasty to me. Maybe when things calm down from the holidays and our fridge isn’t so stuffed, I can buy some chia seeds and try making this.
When we were first married I bought my wife several Radko ornaments each Christmas. I can’t remember if it continued past 2005. They all came from a local store that ended up going out of business at some point, but I can’t remember when. Between pets and kids we never put them on the tree, except for one. It’s a sterling silver Santa ornament. It’s been on our trees for decades.
I learned that people in my neighborhood apparently don’t watch the weather. The forecast last night was for high sustained winds with gusts close to 60mph. Today is trash and recycling day. Almost everyone put their barrels out last evening before the wind really picked up. This morning there was Christmas wrapping paper and Amazon boxes all over the place. I had to swerve through an obstacle course of recycling barrels in the street. Seriously?
I learned that Radko went out of business. Our BF’s gifted us one for our tree in ‘99 to celebrate Y2K. It’s on our tree every year.
I learned about Radko ornaments… new to me.
We have a couple of Radko ornaments received from best friends probably in the 1990s. Looks like they are def holding their value.
Today I had a refresher course in Do Not Trust Meteorologists. Yesterday: we’ll be getting 1.5” accumulation. Today: we are at 8”, and it’s still snowing. Unamused. ![]()
I should add that areas all around us got 1.5”, but there was a band maybe 15 miles wide that “stalled” over my county and kept dumping snow on us. Still unamused.
Wow… 8” is a lot of work on driveway (and sidewalk if you have them). Are you shovelling by hand?
Yep! No driveway, but a parking area for our two vehicles. So, I had to shovel the walkway from the house to three steps that go to the parking area, then clean off the pickup and crossover, then shovel all of that out. Now the whole area is expecting 4 more inches tonight. Yay, winter! ![]()
Need to double & triple check med list for H because not all meds are listed on all electronic records. Also Orgovyx (taken for chemical castration to help with prostate cancer treatment) can cause chronic constipation for unfortunate folks and the GI needs to know patient is taking said Rx!
To remove gumminess in aging rubber coating, you can try alcohol. If that’s not enough, you can try making a paste with baking soda. You may have to apply it more than once. It helped me “de-gum” a flashlight that has a small solar panel for charging. It’s been in the drawer for several years.
I learned how to use D and SIL’s Apple TV remote
Finally…
Admittedly I am not good at dealing with our multiple remotes when my husband is away. That’s ok - I can see what I want on laptop if needed.
This week I learned (accidentally) how to have a “pinned” contact on my iphone. It first happened with a friend’s contact info, when I pressed/held too long - had me really confused. I unpinned her and pinned my husband. That makes the conversation with him stay at top. Still deciding if I like it. (It did get more appealing once I updated his contact info to usie his photo instead of just his initial)
Like a bunch of people these days I’m trying to get more protein in my diet which for me means a daily protein shake. I put Kirkland protein powder in a glass, add water, mix with a whisk. But I always ended up with some clumps stuck to the bottom of the glass that the whisk couldn’t reach since the curvature of the whisk doesn’t match the bottom of the glass.
A few days ago I tried adding about 1/2” of water to the glass before the protein powder, then added the remaining water as usual. Amazingly (to me) the lumps are gone! I don’t have an explanation why this works since the 1/2” of water isn’t enough to hydrate all of the protein powder, but for several days in a row this has eliminated the clumps at the bottom of the glass.
This is ludicrous - forcing a platform to aid a buddy.
