What did you learn today?

I learned that a simple product I want to purchase really doesn’t exist. I drink a lot of flavored seltzer, whatever is on sale. So many choices, so many flavors! I do not like sugar in my drinks, I do not like artificial sweeteners. I don’t always drink coffee, but I do drink a lot of unsweetened iced tea (either make it or buy what’s on sale). I was looking at energy drinks, I sometimes would like to drink one. It’s a unicorn, unsweetened flavored seltzer, no sugar substitutes, with caffeine. After a deep dive I found Nixie sparkling peach tree with 30 mg of caffeine, ordered a case from amazon, to be delivered the end of this month. No stores in my area seem to carry it (and I’m far from the boonies). Bubbly bounce has been discontinued (had it once a couple of years ago but never saw it again.

I learned to be a good listener. I went to lunch with a friend of mine after playing Pickleball and it was evident she needed someone to talk to and just listen. She actually thanked me telling me that most men aren’t good listeners…

Actually, learned this earlier this week–because of Ransom Ware and all the bugs out there, our local Medical Center will only allow very securely encrypted flash drives to be used with their system. The one they loaned me was a Kingston IronKey, so I bought one as well, since they provide tech support for our event and are able to record and give me a recording of the event after it’s done. I really value and appreciate them and since they told me that’s the device they prefer, that’s the one I bought.

I bought it from Amazon–it was cheaper to buy the 64 gig than the 32 gig, so they said that was fine to purchase. (It was just under $100!)

I learned that signing up on-line to print UPS labels and pay is a LOT cheaper than going to the store and letting them do it. Like 40% cheaper (including the discount codes they give you). There may be even cheaper service out there but that was an eye opener for me today.

Printing your own USPS labels are also cheaper, although not as much of a discount.

If you are going to be printing a lot of labels you can buy a label printer pretty inexpensively, it will let you use labels that stick to your package

Attorneys cannot help but argue with one another, even while not working.

True but UPS lets you print the label at the store if you want.

Haha that’s true. I usually print off my own because I’m OCD about things like that. I’m afraid I won’t match the package since I’m usually sending more than one

If you send packages with any regularity it’s even cheaper.

Someone in my Buy Nothing group is giving away four vintage toast racks. I’d never heard of such a thing. I’ve never needed to organize my toast, I guess.

You are definitely not British! My husband loves his toast rack. Warm toast on a plate has condensation which he hates. He wants his toast cool and dry before buttering it. He thinks I’m crazy buttering my warm toast so the butter melts.:joy:

Definitely a British thing, but not my British mom. Only toast with the butter melting on it would do - always good bread and always real butter.

Imagine my surprise and dismay traveling in England and encountering toast in racks for the first time.

Isn’t toast just a vehicle for a pool of butter?

Now see, when we made toast we’d stack it on the plate and I’d take one on the bottom so it was warm and soft. I appreciate the organization, but I wouldn’t want my toast to be hard and cold!

I saw my first toast rack on my honeymoon. The BnB where we stayed made fried toast every morning in bacon fat. It was amazing!

Not that I’d ever skip filing my taxes … but perhaps if I’m sure we’d get a refund I might not worry so much about the deadlines.

  • Statute of Limitations: The clock on audits or assessments does not start until you officially submit a return. [1]

I actually learned this yesterday.

A room in a luxury hotel over Thanksgiving on Michigan Avenue in Chicago is only about $10 more per night than a room in a Holiday Inn Express in the rural town where my extended family lives. So guess where I am staying ?

I can take Amtrak down for the day.
