95%+ of the heartbreaking stories I’ve seen and heard about with college admission have to do with a family deciding at the last minute that the finances don’t/can’t work.

I.e. do not get into this situation after college admission results after saying that “money is not a factor in the decision” in the summer before the student’s senior year in high school.
