I’m new to the concept of transferring, but I was just wondering what colleges like to see in a transfer student. I know they will obviously look at your semester grades in college, but is there anything else?? Colleges won’t see semester grades until after the semester is over, so how are they going to judge a student when considering an applicant before those grades come in??

I’m going to Villanova University next year, and I want to transfer to the University of Notre Dame. So if you guys could just let me know what I should focus on that first semester that would be great.

during the admission process colleges will only look at the grades of semesters that you have completed. Therefore your current semester grades won’t be used during the admission process.

really competitive schools look at a wide range of aspects. they really like to incorporate your ECs and Recs because it gives a much better view of you as a person. certain programs will also look at your major vs your ECs to see if youre super dedicated to your field (ex: political science major–> getting involved with local/ school elections).

and as far as the current semester grades go, some schools will ask for Mid Grade Reports, as in your performance in your current classes.

but if you specifically want to transfer to Notre Dame then research the school a little (and the college you’d like to transfer into), make some trips to visit it and get an appointment with a transfer counselor to show sincere dedication to wanting to attend their school.
