I also wonder what impact the historical Indian caste structure plays into this. I note that IP hasn’t talked about volunteering / helping those less fortunate as an activity (I recognize that he’s talked about it elsewhere in the context of opening his wallet and donating, but not in terms of hands-on). Maybe our culture feels differently about the role of hands-on volunteer work with those less fortunate.

<p>No impact from the caste system. I was not at all caste conscious when growing up.</p>

<p>American culture indeed feels diffrently about hands on work. I cannot imagine what kind of horrendous performance I would put up if I were to try hands on home building or soup serving, or whatever.</p>

<p>All countries have that ethos. Who doesn’t love to sing in the bathroom or like to read a good book on a lazy Sunday evening? Everyone is an individual, too.</p>

<p>Yes, as long as it doesn’t take away from academics and a few core things like music, arts, etc. </p>
