I got 1060 on the Sat due to lack of time management and a mess up. Should I take it this school year or next when I’m in senior year. I have AP tests to worry about or else I would just be studying Sat. Goal is 1300-1500 for sat
You might want to work hard on SAT prep over the summer and take the August SAT. Time management is definitely part of the test. It’s much easier to take the test if you don’t have unlimited time. Also, I don’t know what kind of “mess up” you made, but unless it involved a bubbling error that affected most of one of the sections, it’s not likely that it will have had much of an impact on your score. There’s a huge difference between a 1060 and a 1300, let alone a 1500. The only way you will see that type of improvement is with significant prep, including lots of STRICTLY TIMED official SAT practice tests (done on paper, with bubble sheets, number 2 pencils, etc.). If you think it was a strange fluke that you received a 1060 for this past test, I would suggest that you retake the test at the next opportunity – May or June. You don’t have to do any extra studying for it, just spend the Saturday morning taking it and avoiding the big errors you made last time. If nothing else, this test will give you a more reliable estimate of what your actual current SAT score level is, and it will give you a better idea as to how much prep you need to do this summer in order to achieve your goal score (or at least come close). After that, check some of my other posts here for detailed recommendations on how to most efficiently prep for the SAT. (I’m an SAT tutor.) Good luck!
Go on Khan Academy and study …you could do that summer and then take the first SAT int he fall.
You can always take practice tests as if they are real, even untimed and just see how you do sometimes they allow studetns apply for extra time ap test scores matter more or i think they should anyway I wouldnt divert attention from them for the sat general, though you should also take sat subject tests i think depending on where you want to go they are harder than the regular sat i think
Thanks for the tips I think I will take it once more in May then if nothing improves I’ll just study over the summer to better my time management
Do you normally struggle with timing on tests? If you find that you genuinely struggle with the timing on the test, and don’t see how you could complete the test in the time allotted, you may want to seek extended time.
I generally run out of time due to lack of efficiency don’t think I can apply for extra time.
It is hard to comment on individual cases, but if you find that you are routinely missing a significant number of questions per section due to timing, it might be wise to look into getting approved for extended time. Remember: each math question is worth about 10 points and each EBRW question is worth about 6 points. If you are getting, say, over 100 points off due to timing issues, and you don’t seem to be able to resolve these issues, then your score is no longer representative of your abilities–the thing colleges are interested in knowing about. Students aren’t always the best judges of themselves. What you think is an efficiency problem, might actually be something else. If you don’t need extended time, a reputable psychologist who tests for these things wouldn’t recommend it (at least in theory).
Don’t just take it in May if you don’t have time to properly study more. It won’t magically get better on its own.
