Currently a junior in HS, I have to decide on which path Im going to take my senior year as guidance is already talking to us.

I have a the choice to take…

a) 3 comm coll classes, possible a few AICE and a little ‘fluff’
b) 0 comm coll 4-5 AICE and the rest easy non important
c) full time CC which is at least 4 with no other classes…

My guidance councilor recommended C as I do 3 CC classes already but I’m worried that FSU would look down upon CC classes because it isn’t a feeder school to it (but it is to UCF) and they may not see it as the most rigorous class load.

Personally, I would love to do C as I would only go to school a few hours a day. I work and volunteer quite a bit which could work in my benefit. I hate the ‘busy’ and boring work which is primarily what my classes at my HS consist of, even though they’re college level. I enjoy my CC classes a lot more.

My UW GPA is slightly lower than the average but my weighted is right on, both have upward trends. My scores are well about the needed. ACT is currently 29, hoping for over 30.

I would think you would be fine with C. The whole feeder CC thing is more for CC transfers once they have their AA. For a dual enrolled student, I do not think FSU looks down at CC classes, esp those that help meet your gen ed requirements at FSU.

For purposes of your weighted GPA, Florida universities weigh AP, IB and AICE +1.0.
They weigh core honors and dual enrollment +.5.
With dual enrollment, if you pass the class, you have college credit which counts on your permanent college record.
With credit by examination, you only get college credit if you receive a 3 or more on the exam.
My personal opinion is to go the dual enrollment route since currently the courses and books are free while in high school and you can get through a lot of the general education requirements at no cost. It sounds like you are ready to branch out into the junior college level full steam and are ready to get out of high school already. Colleges seem to feel AP/IB/AICE is more prestigious but community college is a very practical option to me.

I believe that DE classes are now weighted by a full +1. If universities are not yet giving them full weight yet, they will:

“Florida universities assign an extra weight (0.5) when calculating GPA for admission. However, beginning with students entering grade 9 in 2006-2007, dual enrollment must be weighted the same as AP, IB, and AICE.” Per a Florida State statute.

Alright, thanks guys. I would definitely prefer that route but I just feel uncertain. A lot of my friends who got accepted December 5 or whatever are now full time for the second semester and all say “wish I would’ve done that for the first”
But dropping AICE classes (like they did) wont be fair to my teachers and such. Plus, the second semester is the exam prep basically and a breeze…

I took all CC classes this year (5 each semester) and got in. Granted, I got a 32 on the ACT (33 superscored). I know of a girl who also did early admissions this year and also got accepted to FSU, and she got a 28 superscored ACT.

Taking all CC classes won’t hurt you at all.

I <3 dual enrollment. It is easy and you can rack up so many credit hours. I will be going to FSU as a first-time-in-college student with 72 credit hours. :D
