What do I need to transfer from ACES to Business after soph year?

I need to know what kind of credentials I need in case I want to transfer from ACES to the Business school after next school year. I did well this year with a cumulative GPA of 3.51 or 3.59, I forget…

What GPA are they lookin for, also any specific classes need to be taken to transfer?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

you need accy 201 and 202, econ 102, 103, 202 and 203, fin 221

not sure about gpa, 3.5 seems low

i dont think 3.5 is low… ive heard you need like a 3.2… also important is extracurricular leadership involvement. there isnt just a gpa cutoff.

Honestly, u need all those classes? I’m takin ACCY 201 and ECON 103 fall semester even though ACCY 201 requires that u should’ve taken ECON 103, but I still was able to sign up for it…

I took ECON 102 equivalent and I’m takin ACE 245 which is personal finance, would that be a good enough equivalent towards FIN 221(corporate finance) or no?

Anyways, I don’t even have the room to sign up for all the rest of those classes. Maybe I’d take ECON 202 spring semester but I can’t take ECON 203 the same time. I had ECON 202 on my schedule for the fall but after the damn ECON Department got me a spot for ECON 103, I had to drop the ECON 202 because I would’ve had 18 credits, which would be overload.

Problem is I need to take some ACES classes too in case things don’t work out so it’s difficult to take everything.

And you really think Extracurriculars is a big deal? I didn’t do crap for EC’s in high school and I still got in to U of I. I say it’s still overrated.

take econ at a community college this summer. there should still be time, my econ102 summer class doesnt start till mid june, and its only 6 weeks long, tues/thurs nights.

word of advice, accy 201, curtis…ugh…biztch. very funny and all but ugh…her tests are an absolute bzitch. she’ll even say they are and note how many people will be thinking that when they get 60’s on her first test. so study hard for her tests!
oh yea and fin 221 isnt’ required for a transfer.
also the average gpa is supposed to be around a 3.33 but i wouldn’t risk it and just try to get as high as you can.

since when is 18 hours of classes an overload? do you mean that you’re only taking 15 hours? oh, right, I almost forgot, I’m one of the weird ones…nevermind.

anyway, you really need to talk to people in the advising offices, cause if you aren’t “on schedule” to be able to graduate from business in 9 semesters, they’re not going to admit you. transferring into business is way more difficult than getting in as a freshman due to the low drop-out rate, so yes, extracurriclars are important. COB is big into ethics and leadership right now, and if you can’t demonstrate a capacity for those characteristics in 4 semesters at the U of I, they’ll wonder why they should accept you into the program.

I got a job which requires nights and plus my goal is to not spend 2,000 on a community college on top of what’s gotta be spent at u of I. I would hate going to school in the summer on top of goin to school for 9 months. The way I see it, I will have ACCY 201 and ECON 103 done by the end of fall semester. That leaves room for takin 1 more gen. ed class, maybe ACE 270, maybe ECON 202, maybe ACCY 202, maybe FIN 221…

Problem is I got screwed by not getting to take SPCM 111 my freshman fall semester b/c there was no f’n spots left. If it wasn’t for that, I’d probably be taking ECON 202 in the fall and ECON 203 in the spring. That’s why I hate Illinois’s damn scheduling system. I got robbed out of ECON 103 for 2 semesters in a row and had to f’n fight my way to the assistant chancellor/chancellor’s office to get something done b/c the ECON department is a piece of crap

In theory, that leaves me 1 short(ECON 203), you think they’d be understanding, I mean just in theory? Or are they real strict on that?

And to the person who says gettin into business is easy as a freshman:
My ass it’s easy to get into the business school as a freshman. You’re jokin right? You need like 3.9 GPA and 29 ACT to get into the business school plus probably good extra curriculars or community service.

fin 221 isn’t required? well that’s good, but that still doesn’t help my Statistics situation with ECON 202 and 203…the way I look at it, if my theory proves right, I’d be short of 1 class.

And to divinity: Listen, I’m not sayin you shouldn’t do any extracurriculars, but why did they accept me to Illinois if the rumor has always been do as many EC’s as possible. I didn’t, in fact I put down 2 clubs that I went to like 1 time and they were jus some random stupid clubs. I didn’t do any community service or leadership programs, I did work, and I am workin this summer, perhaps if I use that as explanation that could help me out, maybe, maybe not. But all my high school ever said was “get involved” b/c if you don’t colleges will look down on you, I didn’t really and I still got into U of I.

Ethics? My grades should be worth enough credit to show that I worked my butt off. I don’t know. I’m thinkin about trying to join a frat but I have mixed feelings on that issue. That would probably help the Extra curricular situation but I’ve never understood why it mattered. Gettin solid grades should be worth a lot more than pretending to care by doin leadership stuff. I hate it when people do that just to get recognition by the college. It’s like you’re tryin to kiss someone’s a$$ in my opinion. I was going to join the American Marketing Association until I noticed that you have to pay 70 bucks per year, not one time fee, which really ****ed me off b/c that’d be a good program to do. Maybe I’ll do that, but I don’t know. I’m not a fan of doing leadership just to please others. If I do it, I’d rather do it on my own terms and b/c I want to, not to kiss anyone’s ass.

so hypothetically, lets say i’m a manager at fast food joint. i noticed that we have to send a resume in also with ANY work experience. also one of you said they’re looking more for ethics and leadership. now i know being a manager at say mcdonald’s isn’t much but it does have quite a bit of management skills involved and you do have to somehwat lead people. so my question is do you guys think an admissions officer would see this and go hmm… not bad. i mean saying you’re a manager of anyting is something not many people can do right? heck i mean it would be a lot better than putting down say “Model” at abercrombie and under the description you put down folded clothes all day right?

Yea, I agree, manager is good no matter where it is, but how many 19-20 yr. olds are managers? I mean some are assistant managers maybe at say a movie theater or what not, but not as much asmaybe you want to say.

I mean listen, yes, it looks good, but why doesn’t simply working give you enough skills? Or gettin good grades. It takes a lot of self-discipline, especially at the college level to get good grades and to work your butt off during finals and midterms. A lot more can be learned through getting good grades than just getting good grades. I’m not sure if college admissions people realize that or not, but there’s hidden features of people who get good grades. A lot can be said about those people and their qualities and traits.

I’m not paying $2000 for community college… its like $18 per unit… and im taking 8 credits worth so thats like $144… pretty affordable compared to doing an extra semester at U of I.

As far as your arguement that you are proof that U of I that doesnt care about extracurriculars… you got into ACES…

Extracurriculars are especially important for business because it shows that you know how to deal with PEOPLE, not just books. I’d suggest you just play this game and go to quad day. I don’t see anything wrong with being a manager at a fast food place, it shows responsibility and that you have some work experience.
