I’m starting to fill out college applications, but I have a bit of a unique situation on my hands.

Up until grade 10, I attended school in a suburban district. I was in the gifted program throughout elementary and middle school, and when I got to high school I found it excessively boring, and accumulated a few extra credits by doing independent study courses. After grade 10 I’d finally had enough and decided to transfer to a different program in the city. Upon transferring, though, they informed me that due to my extra credits and the different policy on freshman/sophomore/junior/senior status in this district, I would be entering as a senior rather than a junior.

So, aside from now losing a year of college preparation time, I have a problem: I don’t know what the last grade I completed was. Well, I do – the last grade I completed was grade 10. But now I am a senior, and will be graduating in May. I see the question “What was the last grade you completed?” on applications, and I don’t know what to put. If I put 10, then am I going to look like I’m trying to apply to college as a junior? If I put 11, are they going to look at my transcripts and go “What? These are just grades 9 and 10!”?

So, basically, has anyone had the issue of “skipping” junior year? Or should I just write the universities and ask them personally what I should put?
