What do junior and senior year course schedules look like?

What do the look like for concentrators? If I decide on a concentration late and don’t start taking the departmentals early in freshman and sophomore years, would my junior and senior year semesters be filled with 3 or even 4 departmentals each term? Is there a limit to the number of departmentals (or basically, courses from the same department) we can take in a term?

Keep in mind that you’ll be writing a thesis during your senior year. You don’t want your course load to be too bad, and for the sake of your sanity, it’s a good idea to take some courses that year outside your department. To a lesser extent, this also holds true for the junior paper.

thanks for the advice  are you a junior already? do you know how many departmentals per semester do concentrators usually take?

I think that really depends on what your intended concentration is. I know for the engineers, at least, you have to plan out your schedule starting freshman year so you can get all the pre-reqs in. For most concentrations, there are at least a few courses you must have taken before you decide to concentrate (example: politics, you have to have 3 politics classes by the end of your sophomore fall). In politics/history, I think some people take 2-3 departmentals in their junior/senior year, but again, you can stack your courses so you have a much lesser load senior spring in the thick of thesis-writing. I don’t believe there’s a limit in how many departmentals you can take each semester, as long as you get all your distribution requirements fulfilled and such.

most people take 2-3 a semester junior year, and more like 1-2 a semester senior year. Most departments don’t have a ton of requirements so it usually works out

^by that you’re referring to just departmentals? for number of courses, is it still 4 courses a term junior year?

yeah, i was referring to departmentals. Its 4 per semester junior year-- but in some departments junior tutorials don’t count as a class, and thus you are really taking 5.
