I’m currently a 2nd year stats/comp sci double major at a second tier school (i think… its a pretty big california public school ranked ~50 in the nation) … my gpa so far is alright - 3.83. I have do no research yet, but was wondering how I can get into a top 20 masters program for statistics (something like Notre Dame or UCLA, or the likes… dont think ill be able to get into the ivy’s cause i’m not particularly talented or anything). What do they look for (and how important are each of those criteria ) and how can I improve my chances?
The most selective programs are hard for anyone to get into. However, you can maximize your possibilities y getting involved in resarch.
The Ivy League is a sports conference. Nothing more. It has nothing to do with academic rigor or quality in a certain area of study. While you obviously still have time before thinking about graduate school, when you do start investigating graduate schools, you’ll find that the strength of a particular department or advisor at a school is what’s important, not the name of the school itself.
