What do the jail bars mean?

OK…what did I miss? I’ve noticed jail bars on some poster avatars. The first time, I just thought it was an ODD avatar.

Explanation anyone?

From what I can gather, they’re posters that have been warned- perhaps multiple times. I’m not positive though.

I know one or two posters were complete accidents.

CC-shaming. Someone else reported having jail bars and they could see a “Warning Level 9” indicator – but no idea what they’d posted that triggered that. Not at all a poster who posts inflammatory comments.

More of the new, “improved” CC, I guess.

(And on that front, the lack of responsiveness to the multitude of user interface concerns is pretty terrible customer service given how long it has been since the cutover. Maybe they’re all on spring break. Now you can wait and see if I’m put behind bars.)

Nah, they’re not on break. They just really, truly do not care about what we have to say. It’s pretty pathetic.

Actually, I’m pathetic for sticking around. Trying to break the habit. Truly.

At this point in time one has to believe that there is something more to the “new CC” than meets the eye.

I am going to disagree. There is a thread in the Community Issues area and the admins ARE responding to questions posed there…and quickly. Changes are slow, yes (like post numbers), but they ARE responding to queries on that thread. Specific ones…not general kvetching.

I did NOT start this thread for complaints about the new format. I want to know about those jail bars!

Well, that’s just the point though, thumper. Like with almost all the changes to the downgraded CC, we have NO idea what the jailbars mean. No one does because they’re not answering questions.

All we can do is speculate.

So why not ask that question on the forum that you reference Thumper?

HM…I THOUGHT someone else might know the answer. It is NOT a problem with the USE of the site…just something I noticed.

Note: asking about the jail bars itself probably violates TOS.

FWIW, I just posted on the comprehensive “ask us” thread to ask about the jail bars. If they’re monitoring it, hopefully it’ll get answered there- officially

Hunt…I sent you a PM

One would think the mods would know about the jail bars, because aren’t they the ones who install them?

Public spanking

Umm, no. The moderators had nothing to do with the warning system. We’re still trying to figure out how it works.

There are three levels of infractions. It takes a serious infraction to get a “Level 3 Warning,” which is when jail bars appear over a user’s avatar. It is worth three points. Unlike the old site, the person can keep posting - there is no true timeout. The person cannot start a new thread, however. If the person violates the TOS again during this two-week period and gets even a Level 2 “Minor Warning,” he DOES get temporarily banned.

At least, that’s my best guess. The moderators are hoping for change. I think we will get it, eventually.

So what exactly do the jail bars mean? I have seen them many times, sometimes on users I would have never expected them to be “banned” and such. Is it automatic if you say a certain swear word or such multiple times? It just seems kind of weird that the system would be implemented without the moderator’s direct approval.

Am I still behind bars? I can’t see on my phone. I guess I insulted a high school kid and got my spanking, but I wasn’t told how long I was in prison for.

I can’t figure out what a respected poster like GA2012MOM could have done to have been imprisoned. And she doesn’t even know! What kind of behavior mod system is it if no one can explain (including the jailed) what happened when a poster gets put in jail?

I don’t understand the jail bars, either. If GA2012MOM didn’t get some kind of notification about how long they’ll be imposed, that’s not a very effective consequence, imho. Before the “upgrade,” posters were put in time-out for a set period of time (or forever), which seems a more meaningful consequence than jail bars no one quite understands.

If you go back to this post on the thread <a href=“What do the jail bars mean? - #15 by MaineLonghorn - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums”>What do the jail bars mean? - #15 by MaineLonghorn - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums; (post numbers being just so 2013), there’s an explanation of the infraction system from MaineLonghorn, which is helpful. But it would be interesting to know the thought process behind why the bars were instituted, as opposed to temporary suspension of posting.

I just explained the bars. It doesn’t matter how long someone has postd on CC, if they violate the TOS seriously enough, they can end up with a level 3 warning,
