I’d want a spa day - a full one with massage, facial, mud treatments, the works. The other thing that would appeal to me is a weekend trip to a bed and breakfast. I love really nice B and B’s in the spring/summer with wine, rockers and swings on a big porch or in the winter with plenty of hot buttered rum and fireplaces. I prefer them in a small town where you can walk to everything so no need to even get into a car.

I don’t want a spa day, I want a handyman to come and fix all the little things at our house. Otherwise, I always get excited with garden stuff (including gift cert. to a nursery) and bird feeder apparatus. Gift card to Barnes and Noble is always good too.

I live with a hoarder. What I would really like for Christmas is a tax receipt from Goodwill (or something similar) saying that he has donated XXXX amount of stuff! Since I know that is not likely, I would also like a massage. I am working on my 12th month of 1000+ minutes of exercise/month and my muscles are sore.

Sent H a link to a carry on tote bag and hinted to D that I would like a new wallet. S will just get me whatever he feels like buying me.

For years I have asked for a week (just one week!) alone in my own home. I have stopped asking.

From my parents and in-laws the best gift is to have them visit at Christmas. My parent have several times (including last year). In-laws have not ever come at Christmas in 31 years. Again, I have stopped asking.

I would like 2 weeks at an exercise/yoga/spa retreat. I would also like a Macbook. I’d like a trip abroad. I’d like yoga classes. I’d like a series of voice lessons. I’d like the services of a landscaping firm to get our property into shape, including some new plantings. I’d like a maid service once a week. And, oh yes, I’d like a kitchen remodel (for which I already have the plans).

But I’m married to a man who has been known to give Post-it notes from the odd-lots store as a Christmas present. He used to give me nice earrings, but that hasn’t happened in a decade or more.

We used to spend the holidays with in-laws in SF but after my FIL passed away, we’ve been spending all our Christmases in our home with my extended family. One Christmas, we did get my BIL & niece to join us here. This Thanksgiving, we spent with them in SF; they were very happy about that & we may try to do it again. For us & the kids, Christmas & New Years are for HI! We have also spent some Spring Breaks and one Chinese New Years with my in-laws in SF. Maybe we’ll spend more time when schedules are less busy.

FallGirl, what does one do for one week alone in one’s own home? Does that mean that everyone else has to find other lodging? Just not make any demands on you for a week? Maybe if you described it better, you may be surprised & get it!?!? You probably have described it & just I don’t get it.

H & I mostly buy ourselves what we want. H has tried but is pretty clueless about my size and tastes. He generally loves whatever I pick out. I’m happy getting what I like and what our family likes & needs.

I like boring and practical gifts. I am in the shedding stage of life and I don’t want any more “trinkets”. I asked for stovetop heat diffuser, blue socks, really good long underwear, muck shoes, and new carseat cover for pickup truck. I did buy the Amazon laminator I saw everyone glowing about on cc.

If I could wave a magic wand over H, I don’t care what he would get as long as he put some, no, any thought into it. As is, he gets really cranky in demanding a list from me.

I have a personal handyman who majored in electrical upgrades (earned A+ in all of his physics courses). This fits very well with my love for fancy Euro-light fixtures. :D

I’d love a week at the Penland school, too, danceclass. The problem would be in choosing which class to take. At the moment, my keen desire is a bookbinding class. I’d love to learn coptic stitch binding and letterpress. I’ve expressed the desire to go to Penland for years, but it’s yet to be a budgetary reality…sigh…

I’ve asked for a 32 gig Ipad, this year. Hubby would like me to believe it ain’t gonna happen. But, I have a feeling, he’s trying to throw me off the scent, as it were—Ha!

If she has a favorite charity, make a donation in her name. Make it fun by presenting the acknowledgement card to her with a little trinket that’s somehow related; e.g., a card from SPCA can be attached with ribbon to a little stuffed cat or dog.

Personally, people can give me Barnes & Noble giftcards all day long.

skystress, I have several thermals because I HATE being cold (it literally gives me very itchy hives). I have the thin polypropolene ones and also “icebreakers” which are washable wool. I love both and when it’s supercold (for me), I can wear the thinner ones UNDER the woolen ones. My SIL introduced me to the icebreakers after she learned about it on trips to the antartic. Those were VERY popular with others on the cruises. The wool does NOT itch and is very comfortable. It kept me cozy in my recent trip to DC–even when temps dropped to the 30s (which is VERY COLD for me).

HImom- Answering your question, last summer H, D & S went to see family in the midwest for a few days and I was covering for a co-worker and could not go. Although I was working, it was a “vacation” not having to worry about meals, pick up after anyone, minimal laundry, etc. I was free to watch whatever I wanted on TV (nothing), listen to the music that I like, etc. I would not want this all of the time but a week, oh yea.

This sounds cheesy, but I asked for 10 discs CD set from Lifetime. It has 200+ songs from James Taylor, Jim Croce, Carol King, Paul Simon, John Denver, Cat Stevens, Carly Simon, Fleetwood Mac… I was watching an infomercial, they were advertising this music collection, and I wanted it.

I am in the market for a tennis bracelet, but it is something I am shopping for myself. I may not get it for Christmas.
