I forget if we have to do anything beyound the fafsa in regards to the cal or pell grant?

cal grant u have to do some gpa verification form or something in march

you dont have to do anything for pell…for cal you have to do gpa verification, but a lot of CCC’s electronically send them for you, so call your CCC to find out if they do that

Is the Cal Grant merit based?

financial aid is not merit based

Not merit based but I believe you have to have a certain gpa to qualify for the cal grant, hense the gpa verification.

I know there are two types of CalGrants— A & B.

I was under the impression that one of them was based primarily on merit rather than solely on need. If not, what are the differences between the two?

one was for 4 yr universities, and the other was for CC i think. although i didn’t get a Cal grant from my cc. did u guys?

The Cal Grant is “reserved” until you transfer over.

I attended UCSD for one quarter out of high school and received my Cal Grant A there. When I went back to the CCC near home, my Cal Grant status became “reserved”. I believe instead of having the Cal Grant, you get “BOGG” at the CCC. It basically covers all unit costs.

I am however still receiving Pell Grant and ACG.

Looking forward to that next check!
Gonna grab the ps3.

edit:
as for the A & B argument.
It is two different payment types. My friends with really low family incomes received Cal Grant B , and everyone else with under 70k$ received Grant A. I think you have to have a family income of less than 40,000 to get Cal Grant B.

Cal Grant B helps you in the long run because the amount increases. Cal Grant A is usually just the determined amount usually… in the 7k$ mark.

I’m not a financial aid expert but this should be roughly correct.

^off topic- do dorms at most UCs have ethernet cables so we can plug in xbox/ps3

yeah they have ethernet slots…i think thats how you will be getting your internet in most of the dorms, because almost none have wireless in your room

OK, thanks for the info.
