While home euthanasia was not something I wanted to do, I know many have felt this was the best for their family. One company that I have hear good things about, is Lap of Love and they are located in numerous cities. I believe they provide a valuable service.
Our vet practice doesn’t normally make home visits, but she came to our house for our girl. It was comforting for us and not scary for K. It’s been three months and I’m still pretty raw. Not ready for another dog yet, but we’re discussing it.
Thanks for your suggestions. She is OK as long as I am there to help her get around. I know things aren’t going to get better, but she’s OK. DH has such trust in our vet (again, who is his cousin) that waiting until Monday is mainly for DH’s peace of mind. He only wants to have our specific vet do this deed.
I totally get wanting a specific vet. We asked for our regular doc, too. Because Kira was a nervous Nellie about a lot of things, we wanted to have the situation as close to “normal” as we could.
Kind thoughts to you @VeryHappy You should go on NextDoor and ask if anyone can lend you a Help ‘Em Up Dog Harness for the weekend… It would add a lot of dignity to your dog’s final days.
Thanks, MaterS. We’re good.
DH told me last night that he wants to wait until Tuesday, because Monday he’ll “be too rushed.” WTH?? (He teaches tennis in the AM for the town.)
It turns out it’s pouring rain this morning, so he won’t be teaching and he doesn’t have that excuse. I wonder what he’ll come up with next.
In the meantime, the poor dog just lies in the corner panting and staring at the wall.
@VeryHappy I am sorry you are having to deal with this; hopefully you will find peace soon. Ms. P was doing the staring at the wall the last couple of night; my vet said that was part of the senility although I think it was more than that. I hated watching her like that, so I know what you are going through.
Hugs to you and your family.
Thanks, @snowball. We did in fact take her to the vet today and first he sedated her (not that she really needed it) and then he put the drug into the catheter. Both DH and I were with her, rubbing her head and whispering to her what a good dog she was. It was sad, but it was time.
We still have two others to keep us busy.
I’m so sorry, @VeryHappy. I think you did the right thing but I know how hard it is when a pet dies, either on its own or with assistance.
Thanks, @rosered55. I think both DH and I are OK with it. Sad, but OK.
So sorry, VH. I’m glad you were both there with her.
VH, I am so sorry.
Being there with her was a lot more meaningful than I anticipated. It really helped me a lot to be able to pet and comfort her.
