What do you buy at Costco?

I love the black bean chipotle burgers.

Don’t know if this is new(er) at Costco, but yesterday was the first time I noticed it…

In the refrigerated produce section, a large container of cubed raw butternut squash. Sometimes I like something like this because I am more likely to do something with it, as opposed to the whole squash. This morning I took maybe a cup of the squash, micro-ed it along with 1/2 of an apple and then sauteed it for just a couple of minutes with a smidge of butter, a sprinkle of brown sugar and some chopped walnuts. It is DELICIOUS for lunch!

Would also be great to turn into butternut squash soup.

Recently took my Mom and got her hearing aids at Costco. Same exact ones at her Dr.'s office for $5500 were $1900 at Costco. WOW! We also get glasses there.

Has anyone tried the raw flour tortillas from the refrigerated section? Closest thing to homemade tortillas we have found.

I just found individual servings of Hummus. Had it for lunch today :)

Got my D a lovely wool pea coat, but unfortunately it was too large (she’s really an extra small). Also bought myself a great double-breasted CK jacket that is much warmer & nicer than the one I am replacing (the lining was tearing). It’s even washable! It was $35!

I go to the local Costco just to grab lunch…hard to beat the prices!

DH likes to go on the weekend – I much prefer showing up at 10 am on one of my weekdays off, so I can avoid the insane lines.

Need to start looking at some of the prepared food – am tired of eating out of a box now that S2 is gone. Should also see if there are any men’s pea coats there. S2 would like one.

I do all my photo printing at Costco, including enlargements. Great quality, can’t beat the price.

Has anyone done roof insulation through Costco? Would love to hear feedback!

GT, we’ve been buying those individual sized hummus packages for the last couple of months - everyone fights over them - to take in lunches, or to take back to the dorm!

New favs-
small individually wrapped baby bell light cheeses and laughing cow soft cheese wedges.
Great with fruit at lunch.

There are significant regional differences with Costco offerings. Sometimes they have gear for cold weather in HI, but often not as large a selection as colder regions. When I was in LA, I only saw women’s pea coats, but who knows what different stores may stock? We carry swimsuits nearly year round in HI. :)

^^Which is really great, HIMom! I bought my favorite Tommy Bahama shorts at one of your Costcos for $15 (try to buy any Tommy Bahama clothing item for that price elsewhere!). When we visit your beautiful island, I skip the produce brought from the “mainland” and load up on your fabulous local produce - purple sweet potatoes, Kamuela tomatoes, Kula Country strawberries, lychees, HI-grown watermelon, etc. Yum!!! We will be there in less than a month - YAY!!!

Wow, no fair, I didn’t see the $15 shorts! It can be quite amazing the deals you can get if you have great timing. I have a dress I love that I got there for $7; Gloria Vanderbilt slacks @ $4 and so many other amazing deals. Generally, the clothes fit great and wear for years and years!

You do have to search for sizes at times–for some reason they don’t buy many of the small sizes & often end up with clearance on the huge sizes at the Costco nearest my home. I think they said they buy like only TWO of the smallest sizes; for those, I just buy as soon as I see them because if I blink, I know the small size will disappear.

HIMom, I had these shorts for a while now - I think I got them 3-4 years ago (and a nice tank top by TB as well). We bought our snorkel gear at a Costco in HI as well and supplied the kids with body boards from Costco. I have to say that those purple potatoes are my H’s favorite food - he always asks me to look for them in our local stores… Ha! No luck. Maybe that’s why he likes to vacation in HI  DH always gets a HI-made Aloha shirt or two at one of your Costcos when we visit. He looks for any excuse to wear the shirts!

Last year, when we went to Oahu just before Christmas, we got Japanese cookies and Kona coffee gift sets - they were a big hit with the recipients! I’m looking forward to doing my Christmas shopping on Oahu!

(I have the same problem with smaller sizes - today, I almost had to fight with another customer for size S coat at Nordy’s!)

The regional differences are interesting - a couple years ago, I received a Costco e-mail meant for the Canadian market. You wouldn’t think there’d be much of a difference, we have four seasons here in the northeast U.S., but there isn’t much call for snowmobile helmets on Long Island.

My latest big purchases from Costco have been a queen bedroom set and a memory foam mattress. As usual, prices/quality are great. I’m picking up a sheet cake this afternoon from Costco’s bakery for my brother’s birthday party! The place is addictive . . .

^^^I believe you can still substitute pineapple instead of fries in HI McDonalds…

Can you indeed? I’ve NEVER heard of it, even when we were at a McD in Waikiki. Am pretty sure you can’t do such a substitution, as most McDs don’t even carry pineapple. I’ve only seen it at the Waikiki locations.

They DO have spam & portugese sausages that are very popular tho.

Our Costco seems to have an abundant of small sizes! When they mark down clothing, seems the sizes left are 4.6 and 8 - none of which work for me!

Could you please have them send their small sizes down to our store in Hawaii Kai on Oahu? It’s crazy to me that they can’t figure out the demographic who shop at the stores and always have the sizes that don’t fit anyone in the area. For a while, they totally stopped carrying the smallest sizes, which caused a huge uproar. Now they carry maybe TWO of the smallest size & wonder why it always goes out as soon as it’s put out!

@counting. Men’s pea coats are at our NC Costco.
