What do you buy at Costco?

I have a friend who shops at a Delaware Costco and she buys a Freekeh grain at her Costco, but I’ve looked at my Costco in Pennsylvania and it’s just not there. The two places are maybe an hour apart but I would think they would have the same supplier. She’s brought a couple of salads to potlucks with it, and they were really tasty. http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Earthly-Choice-Cracked-Freekeh/dp/B00IHUP26C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1417960434&sr=8-4&keywords=cracked+freekeh</a>

In some states they have to let non-members buy alcohol and/or gas. Some states don’t let them sell alcohol and/or gas at all!

Currently, I can buy alcohol and hard liquor in Costco. I don’t buy wine there that often, I haven’t found one that I like yet. (but I’ll keep trying!) There are rumors that the giant Kirkland vodka that is made in France (not the regular Kirkland vodka) is actually Grey Goose relabeled.

Those cobbles look like russet potatoes!

They sell this evil stuff at our Costco, or sometimes the variety with almonds. If I buy it, I eat it all!

They can’t sell wine in Maryland. We did buy wine at Costco in Hawaii, and they had a good selection. They actually had a special on TV at some point about wine, and trying to find the vineyard that would make the Kirkland brand. I don’t know if I even watched it all. They also had a show on about Costco in general, and how they got to where they are. I did watch at least some of that. I have no idea what channel it was.

Our costco has a huge wine area IMO - I don’t drink or purchase it but it has it’s fair share area of the store!

We buy lots of wine at Costco…they have the best prices and a huge selection. We have a few favorite whites and reds and every once in a while they also have $3.00-$4.00 off per bottle and we stock up. They also have a very wide price range. If you are not a member I believe you can go peruse the selection anyway…if you like what you see and are a frequent wine purchaser it would be worth the $55 to join.

I do buy 95% of my wine at Costco. Their buyer may not have experience but their sommelier, as far as I know, is a woman supposed to be the top one in the US that chose to work for Costco so she could reach a much larger wine loving community, as opposed to working in a very high end restaurant with a very small audience. Then again, this is information is from a Costco magazine that we get every so often. I’ll post if I can find more information about it.

By the way, Costco has over 60 million members (20% of the US population) so that is a large audience. And their stock has gone up from around $115 to $143 in the last 6 months.

Everything. Terrific company.

@kiddie‌ - I know that the Costco in Edison and North Plainfield both sell wine. The Bridgewater store does not. I don’t know about any others in NJ.

I have heard very good things about some of the wines they sell. Since I’m not much of a wine person, I don’t know from personal experience.

Costco locations tailor their offerings. For example, our local Costco has a huge huge huge separate area where all the gluten free, GMO free, Organic, etc products are displayed. The area is big enough to drive through with a 1969 VW bus. :)) - appropriately painted and bumper stickered of course.

The warehouse in an adjacent county carries oodles of clothes, with a disproportionate amount being size 0 - 6. They cater to a large (and smaller sized) Asian population. The warehouse where D attended college would carry clothing with the University label. They’d also have the entry displays containing bedding, vodka and noise cancelling head sets!

@bookreader - do you know if you can buy wine there without being a member? I am pretty close to the one in North Plainfield and would love to check out their wine selection.

Just called the Costco in North Plainfield - liquor store is next door but not part of the Costco store - you do not have to be a member. Liquor stores in Wayne and Edison are in the Costco and you do have to be a member.

I am going to be by Costco today, so I was thinking of stopping in, even though I don’t think I need anything.
Any good stuff I should look for?

A sweater for your bare-chested avatar? :-SS

In NY no wine or liquor is sold at Costco. Our local Costco does not pump gas either, not sure if that is the situation throughout NY. I know that in Hawaii they sell gas and wine/liquor as just about a year ago we were in Maui and we filled up our rental car at Costco.

@kiddie
The liquor store at the Costco in North Plainfield is actually attached to the Costco. You have to walk by it in order to enter Costco. So to me they look attached, but I don’t actually know. I’ve not shopped there.

Our local Costco sells “Cajun vegetables”, aka the holy trinity of onion, celery and green bell pepper. All chopped up and ready for your roux.

Silly question -do you bring bags to Costco -or do they put everything in boxes?

They ask if you want a box. My cat loves it when we come home with a new Costco box for her.
