What do you buy at Costco?

Jym, I would not touch the latter… It is the tail end of the cherry season here, and we are taking advantage of it by eating the tasty local cherries by box loads.

Cherries were about $9 for 3 pounds at Costco yesterday. I bought berries instead, which were reasonable–$5.99 for the organic blueberries 18oz ahd $3.99 for non-organic. The strawberries were $5.99 for 3 pounds, grape tomatoes were marked $4 for 2 pounds (but rang up $5.79), and blackberries $4.99 for 12 oz.

Bought Fuji apple chips–the only ingredient is Fuji apples. I can’t wait for D to come home so we can try them and see what they’re like. They weren’t sampling them, so no idea, but it seemed healthy and I thought I’d give it a try. She can take it to the bachelorette party or a friend’s house when she’s in town and let us know what they’re like. One bag of chips is supposed to be like 3 dozen apples.

Those apple chips are quite good! The only problem - you can eat 3 apples worth and not even notice it!

I looked at the cherries, but here on the east coast they didn’t look so good. I did get peaches, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries though. Not sure how I’m going to eat all that fruit with my husband not here and kid who won’t eat much, but it was cheaper than buying smaller amounts at the regular grocery store.
Of course if I’d gone to the regular store I would have only spent 250 instead of over 500… Oh well.

I do the same thing @121mom- I buy the fruit and produce even though there is more than we can eat. It is less expensive than a much smaller amount at the store and usually better quality. I sometimes will take extra to my neighbors so it won’t go to waste.

My new regular purchase at Costco is the 6-pack of individual servings of Del Destino Quinoa Salad w/ artichoke and palm hearts. I love this stuff and it’s great to throw in my purse for lunch- no refrigeration! It’s on the aisle with bulk rice and beans. So good!

Usinger’s Applewood Smoked Bacon (3 1-pound uncooked packages)

Peaches have been great here, both at the farmer’s market and at Costco. Of course, the Costco ones were huge. I tried to dehydrate them in my oven. I hadn’t used the dehydrate cycle before and it said to set it for 140 degrees for fruit. I put the slices on a cookie rack that was opened on top of a cookie sheet so they would get air all around.

4 hours later, they were still a bit moist! Delicious, and the kitchen smelled crazy good, but I wasn’t sure how long it would take so I just put them in the fridge for now. Anyone have experience dehydrating in the oven? How long does it usually take for peaches or tomatoes? I would love to keep some of this July goodness for the winter.

We joined specifically to get glasses. Free-standing optical shop : $700. Costco: $250. The only downside is that I missed the very helpful gals who used to help me pick frames that look good (I’m fashion-impaired and cannot tell what looks good on me). No help of that kind whatsoever at Costco. I just picked frames which were closest to my old pair, and I’m happy with them.

Yes, we like purchasing our glasses and contacts there. I have gotten a Rx regular and Rx sunglasses for about $250 for the 2 pairs. Customer service is excellent.

I got two pairs of prescription sunglasses for about $250 also. H wanted me to go to his place, where he spent more than $300 for one pair of glasses! His have lenses that are replaceable but how often will you do that?

I get my eye exam at Costco too. It is appointment only and no waiting.

Super helpful Costco price list! http://queenbeecoupons.com/costco-price-list/

Applewood smoked bacon and gas.

At first I read that as one purchase! :open_mouth:

Ironic-- the 100 count box of Kirkland K cup keurig coffee (pacific bold) is $36.99 ($0.36 each), but 2 boxes (200) can be had on line for $81.99 ($0.41 each) “shipping and handling included”. Baloney-- thought they didnt charge for S&H.

They don’t say they don’t charge for it: it says so - “S&H included.” It does not say S is $0 and H is $0.

Thought of this thread today when I was in Costco and just had to share!

Was walking down the frozen food aisles…walked past the jumbo boxes of Eggo waffles…and then…next to the Eggo Waffles…hanging from meat hooks…but covered up (in a type of wrapping…WHOLE LAMB(S)!!!

I mean you know like somewhat processed (don’t ask me too many details, I"m not a huge meat lover though I do like lamb but not in this manner!!!

WHY NEXT TO THE EGGO WAFFLES???

Let me telll, you I wasn’t the only one noticing this #awkwardplacement! But, I was the only one who got out my phone and took a pic and shared this oddity with my Instagram friends - #leggomylamb!!!

I saw a man on line once with a whole leg of lamb, wrapped of course. He said you have to call first and then the butcher comes out with it for you. No waffles in sight!

Honeycrisp apples!!!

They had them last year at Easter time. Next to the waffles is probably the only place they had the room for them. They are kind of big.

BB,
Usually the instore price is the same as the price to have it delivered, IIRC. That thing with the 1 vs 2 boxes of coffee is silly.
