<p>What I understand is that Studying Abroad generally refers to studying outside of the United States. I have heard some schools have programs that let you study at another University in the US while still paying your own college’s tuition/fees.</p>
<p>Does anybody know if that is also called Study Abroad or if it can be narrowed down? I want to find out if my college has this.</p>
<p>That’s the National Student Exchange, I do believe. It isn’t called studying abroad. It doesn’t really have a term. I guess you’d be a transient student?</p>

<p>At my school, it’s called domestic off-campus study.</p>
<p>National Student Exchange is one program, but quite a few schools have their own exchange programs as well. A lot of colleges call that section of their website something like “Off Campus Programs” or something and cover both programs abroad and domestic programs. Sometimes they have semester programs in the US that aren’t other colleges, like a semester in DC when you get credit for an internship (an example would be The Washington Semester that Dickinson and several other colleges participate in, although there are other college specific DC programs as well) or at someplace like Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. A lot of the DC programs can be useful for more than just political science or public policy students – sometimes you can get an internship in a different field, like with NIH for the sciences or in business (working in the budget department for a government agency, for example).</p>
