what do you do when you're frustrated and trying to solve a problem?

when you realize that you’re not going to solve it in some time by continually staring at it, looking at the definitions again, and reading the chapter again? (that then you need to either seek help that isn’t accessible immediately or wait for some time for your frustration to stabilize)

i count that as time i spend on CC.

too bad i don’t structure those breaks and end up wasting far more time than usual…

GOD I LOOK FORWARD TO THE TIME WHERE IM NO LONGER BEHIND IN MATH SO THAT I DONT HAVE TO STUDY IT ALL DAY

dude, if you need to study math all day, you seriously need to get a grasp on reality. how are you behind? who are you comparing yourself to? EPGY students?

If I get frustrated because I can’t solve a problem, I’ll stare at it and try to do it properly until I figure it out. Sometimes, I’ll try to find useful information online, but I don’t really ask for help from my friends. They’re the ones who usually ask me for help…

I usually stop and put it away for at least an hour, preferably two - get something to eat and work on something that’s entirely unrelated, like reading in French or practicing piano. Then I go back, turn to a fresh page of my notebook without looking at any of the work I did before, and start over from scratch. If I don’t make any progress in the next 20 minutes, I call a friend or go get the solution manual from the library.

This is just my vague recollection, but I believe that InquilineKea studies theoretical math in college. So studying it all day is not really a stretch.

I usually just put mine away, and sometimes I never return. Sometimes it comes to me the next day.

I get really frustrated if I can’t understand/solve a problem, and I won’t leave it alone until I get it.

Just stare at it for awhile.

stop doing the problem for a while and go do something else. However, while you’re “taking a break” slowly play around with that problem in your head. Within some time, hopefully you’ll solve it.

I stop doing it, go back to it later, and if I’m still stuck, I ask my dad (or my tutor) :)
