"What do you feel your responsibilities are as a roommate?"

“What do you feel your responsibilities are as a roommate?” - This is a question on my roommate matching sheet (through the college). I know the answer is supposed to come from me and that it’s a fairly simple answer, but i truly don’t know how to approach it. Any help/how you guys would answer it so i could have an idea how to approach it myself? Thanks in advance!

Provide bail, no questions asked.

Erm … to respect each other.

To be open to the fact that when one roommate has a problem or concern for the other, you should be willing to listen.

To keep the space clean. To respect rules and guest policies (I add this because I had a problem mid-semester with this -_-).

To respect one’s property. Don’t borrow things without asking.

That’s all I can think up right now =</p>

@Batllo - Hahaha.

@MushaboomBlue - Thanks! I was having trouble wording it, but i think you hit it on the head.

No problem! The best way to answer the question is think about what YOU want from your roommate. What do you want to deal with? What problems do you not want to deal with or allow to arise between you and your roommate?

Don’t feel like you are being very controlling or picky. Trust me, I went that route, and after having a bad roommate issue this semester, I learned I can’t keep my mouth shut and be toooo nice.

To respectfully leave the room when sexiled.

^ to respectfully warn you ahead of time that they plan to bring their significant other over to “cuddle” with. And if they bring over a person on a whim that doesn’t allow them to give you a warning, they must respect you if you refuse because you are working on homework or studying or make sure you have a proper place to go for the time being. It’s your room as well.

Make sure you also go over guest policies – how many nights someone can stay over. When they can stay over. etc.

I think that all roommates are evil, so I would want my roommate to be invisible. And act like he’s not even there. Other than that, you have NO responsibilities to your roommate.

Honestly, if my roommate ended up in jail and called me for bail, I’d totally ignore it. If the roomie knew me, he should know better than to call me. Having a de facto single FTW

Be honest about what you are and are not comfortable with.
