What do you hate....that almost everyone else loves

Another Golden Girls disliker, but in my case, the aversion is to Bea Arthur. I just detest her. Could not watch Maude either.

Truffles. To me truffle oil smells like tennis balls.

Mmmm. Tennis balls…

I think truffles smell like fresh dirt. And not in a good way, if there is a good way.

Truffles and truffle oil are two entirely unrelated things.

Truffles = sublime food of the gods.

Truffle oil = rank chemical concoction.

Car shopping. My 2008 lexus broke down on side of road, on way to find out why it made a noise when starting. My friends convinced me not to,put $2000 into repair, but lease a new car. I’m going tomorrow, and dreading it.

How many miles on it, @bookworm?

56,600

@nottelling that’s good to know about truffles vs. truffle oil. I just assumed they’d smell the same.

@bookworm I love car shopping, but I don’t think that it’s something “most” people love. Bummer about the Lexus crapping out at 56k miles, though, that’s just not ok.

That’s not many miles, @bookworm. I’d be tempted to make the repairs. We have a Lexus with well over 200,000 miles on it but, yes, that meant doing some repairs here and there. Still cheaper in the long run over getting a new car IMO, unless you want a new car. I’m never been a leaser, though.

ETA: You don’t drive much!

Everyone hates car shopping!! Too bad the Saturn model didnt survive.

PM me and I’ll send you a contact person at Lexus corporate. They took care of getting my dashboard replaced (I’d been in the waiting list for over a year and a half and had moved very slowly on the wait list-- and now poof suddenly I am called and now have a new dashboard!!) and they are looking into assisting with some other things.

Wow, how did this become 32 pages so quickly?

Things I hate that most people love:
Los Angeles. (I lived there for many years, I am allowed to say that.)
Chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream. (Chocolates however, yummy.)
Pineapple anything. (Except real, fresh pineapple, yummy.)
Rubber boots on anyone but a farmer in a muddy field.
And because I worked on airplanes for many years, yes, I hate people on airplanes, even when I am one of them:-).

There are others, but those are the main ones.

56,000 miles, what kind of repair? $2000 is roughly 4 or 5 months of payments on a used Lexus. Depending on what’s wrong, we’d probably get it fixed. 9 year old car, it still should have life left in it. Now if you want a new car, that’s different.

Fuel pump. I’ve had other engine problems, but I was still under extended warrantee.

Jim, I got dashboard replaced, but not side panels. The sides look so awful that I wouldn’t be able to sell it to anyone else but Lexus.

(this reminds me of the game “Whoonu”, one of the best board games ever)

Truffle oil is pretty highly ranked in the “food scam” category. Kind of irritating that high end restaurants resort to this sort of thing. My children used to like to order the “truffle fries” and I would just roll my eyes knowing I was paying double for something that was just a scam. Hard to explain something like that to a 13 year old in a restaurant though.

I got a fab deal on leasing, tho not a Lexus.

Don’t like chewy cookies.

Don’t like Lara Spencer, on ABC News and “Flea Market Flip.”

Beets smell and taste like dirt. Truffles smell sort of awful, but taste wonderful.

I don’t like chocolate ice cream either, but do like chocolate cake. (At least the ones I make - real devils food recipe with ganache instead of overly sweet frosting.)

Everyone loves to hate LA and love SF - I think. I like Los Angeles better - better museums, better weather, lots of great neighborhoods and foods, better architects (from the 20s, from the mid-century modern era and contemporary.) I even like the LA freeways.

@mathmom, I am a rabid beet hater. However, this summer DH and I went to Quebec. We ate at a little restaurant in a country town, and they served beets that were really pale pink. They were actually good!
