What do you hate....that almost everyone else loves

Hot dogs, blech! Same for potato chips and fritos, Cannot stomach them, they repeat on me lol.

Having said that I do love me a good bratwurst, just hard to find in So Cal.

Let $T be the trade-in value of the car (what you will get for selling the car to a dealer), and $R be the dealer retail value of buying the same car at a dealer (both assuming that the repair is done or the problem is not present).

If $T > $2,000, then repair the car, even if you intend to sell or trade it in for another car soon. (Unless you want to sell it and someone offers you $(T - 2,000) without repairing.)

If $R < $2,000, then it would be less expensive to buy another of the same car, so repairing does not make sense.

I don’t think putting a new fuel pump in will cost you $2000 – especially if you have someone other than Lexus service do the installation for you. Mine went on my Rover at about 150,000 miles. I think my total invoice for parts and labor was under $600, but I had my local garage take care of the installation. I got another 60,000 miles out of that vehicle and just traded it in.

Ah, a person after my own heart. I’m a connosieur of the best views from freeway interchanges in LA. The very best, on a very clear winter day, right after it has rained and the mountains are all snowy, preferably on a Sunday, is the view from the top of the interchange from the 710 N to the 60 W. The snowy mountains, the green hills, downtown off in the distance to the left, and some weird old cemetary in the foreground that is bisected by the freeway; iconic! I even like the weeds that grow on the side of the freeway there. They are doing construction on this part of the freeway now; I hope they don’t screw it up.

Another great view is from the raised carpool lane going north on the 110 toward downtown, just before you get to USC, again on a clear winter day right after it has rained. So pretty.

The issue with car repairs isn;t always just this one bill, but how often the particular car will need 1 or 2k or more. “Nickel and diming you,” my old car buddies used to say.

What a relief to go to a lease, let major issues be the dealer’s problem.

@bookworm I agree a fuel pump shouldn’t be $2,000. We just had one replaced this week (Volvo not Lexus but I don’t think the cost should vary that much between the brands). Estimates from dealer and independent service technicians ranged between $700-1,000. Wound up getting manufacturer to cover it for free but still would have paid for it on a car with much more mileage than yours.

i just came out of warrantee, and didn’t like the GRRRR sound when starting car. AAA said it was fine. I didn’t expect the cost to be so much. Foolish of me to not find a local mechanic, but Rosie, who worked on my Vovos for years, closed her shop. So, l called Lexus.

Part of my message didn’t go thru

USB. I copied your formula. Kelly BB lists between $7500-10,000

In other words, it looks like you should do the repair, unless you want to sell the car now and someone is offering to buy the unrepaired car for a reasonable value minus the repair cost.

What’s with all you olive and beet haters? I love both! I can kind of understand why people might not love olives, though you are all wrong. Beets don’t taste like dirt. They are kind of sweet and sour.

Hate LA freeways worse than I hate LA. Actually, there is one thing I love in LA. The super groovy, but sadly closed, restaurant in the middle of the airport. I love seeing that when I land at LAX.

Oreo cookies. Gross.

I hate all olives but the green ones with pimientos in them. Those, I ate straight from the jar during my first pregnancy.

The soup thread has pointed out another thing that a lot of people love but I hate. Soups made with ham in them.
I also hate all olives except for kalamata.

I also hate soups with ham in them, perhaps because my mom cooked kosher.

I absolutely despise tomato soup and tomato juice, but I love tomato sauce and don’t mind ketchup.

Meyer lemons. My mouth can’t decide if it’s sensing sweet or sourness, so it doesn’t work for either.

@techmom99, interesting, I like cities too. The constant action puts my mind at ease for some reason.

I do like the beach at night, but the mountains depress me for the most part.

I have a challenge for you:

Go to Sedona, Arizona, if you haven’t been there already, and tell me if you long for the city.
I’m not a big nature guy, and I hate the New Age scene, but Sedona puts my mind at ease.
Have you been there?

Any kind of melon

^^^^^^Melon is the worst. It’s oppressive in that if you put it into a fruit salad the whole thing will taste like melon. Sometimes when I have a party someone will offer to bring a fruit salad and I always politely refuse. I make mine sans melon.

Daylight Savings Time! I love it in the fall when we turn the clock back and it gets dark early. It’s cozy. And when my kids were little it was easier to calm them down at night.

Surprised you had to go up the line of protocol to get that dash replaced, jym. Toyota knows about that issue for vehicles in warm weather states, and as far as I know, once they put out the enhanced warranty notice they didn’t fight making the change out once it was brought to their attention by anyone who said it was a problem.
