What do you know about Davis Scholars?

I just got a message from my brother that his daughter will be 2007 Davis Scholar. She will be attending the Red Cross Nordic United World College in Norway for her last two years of high school. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this program and how it will impact her college application experience.

Congratulations to your niece! The Davis scholarships are a truly remarkable philanthropic act. They originally provided full-tuition scholarships to any graduate of the United World Colleges who gained admission to one of the inaugural institutions: Colby, College of the Atlantic, Middlebury, Princeton, and Wellesley.

They now provide very generous scholarships at those schools and up to $10,000 in need-based scholarships at another 71 colleges.

You can find details at the Davis United World College Scholars website:

The UWC have sterling academic reputations, and it sure won’t hurt that your niece will be applying lots of places with scholarship money that doesn’t come from the colleges’ funds in tow :)

Thanks for your reply! I had never heard of them before and I was wondering if it would be a good thing to give up two years of regular high school to do. Sounds like it is.
