I’m interested on student input. This is for anyone considering Cal (preferably based on facts/self-made opinions rather than word of mouth) or already going there.
So just ANYTHING you like/dislike about the school whether it’s about academics, food, social scene, location, boys/girls, whatever.
Oh but one thing I wanted clarified was the difficulty of the school. I’m kind of interested in Haas, but it’s still up in the air, I know for sure though that I’m not going into Engineering/Science so I don’t really need to know how difficult that is.

Things I like:
- Top academic programs at bargain price (for in-state).
- Cal football on campus.
- Semester system.
- Bay Area/SF
- Campus environment…beautiful on a warm spring/fall day
- Tons of quirky restaurants, bookstores and cafes in the city surrounding campus.
- Smart, diverse student body.
- BART/public transportation - esp. coming from L.A.

Things I didn’t like:
- Financial aid could be more generous.
- Triple dorm room my first year.

Haas is a very nice mini-campus up on the hill, on the campus’ eastern side.

Academically intense, only the best of the best students get in (50% admit rate from sophomore continuing Berkeley applicants).

Recruiting/career opportunities are phenomenal. Haas has its own career center. Students get cheesy business cards, stating they are a “BA Candidate”.

Likes:
- Breadth and depth of excellence in every field
- Great variety of students and groups on campus
- Many opportunities available to undergrads
- Lively urban surroundings
- Varied and pleasant campus
- Pretty good football team
- Pretty good public transit system

Dislikes:
- Expensive housing
- Confusing and bureaucratic administration
- Not enough hand-holding

I don’t like how it’s public/very Californian.

Thanks you guys, I appreciate your input.

Oh, is the weather like San Francisco, or is it warmer?

It’s pretty much like San Francisco, but I think slightly warmer and less windy. Usually in the 60s-70s in the fall and spring, and 50s-60s in the winter.

what i like:
semester system, nice looking campus, close to the metro, interesting people

what i hate:
big school–> professors who dont care
bad finaid
expensive dorms
oakland’s ghettoness
