Kids and fundraisers (you ring my doorbell, I buy something. I hate the thought of them having to shill for little league, brownies, field trips…)

Vegetables (especially stuff like leeks, celeriac, scallions, fresh ginger)

Musical instruments (how can they have a long-term attitude if they rent? how can they succeed if it’s a miserable crappy drum kit or saxophone? I can always sell it later)

Private schools, including colleges. Household help, as I have the two elderly moms and though they don’t really yet need it, I have it place to free me up and to be there if and when it is needed. Lawn care, though in our area everyone does–I have the kids who really should be doing it. I collect dolls. I like to buy gifts here and there rather than focusing on birthdays and holidays when i see something that suits somoene dear to me.

Where do you get your potatoes, Zoosermom? Our local Balducci’s (terribly expensive) has fresh Yukon Golds but they price them like steaks. But the taste difference is there between those and grocery store fare.

CPT, For about half the year I go to a local farmer’s market and the potatoes are amazing. The home made fries are absolutely epic. Sometimes Wegman’s has great potatotes, actually, they often do in the self service bin. We also do go to Balducci’s sometimes, as well.

I am currently doing a personal study of various cheeses/cheese combinations in scalloped potatoes. Look, this could count as a hobby darnit! (Yes I know how weird I am)

For me it’s soap. I started buying it a few years ago - the kind that is made only with natural plant and flower essences for fragrance. Thoroughly addicted! My favorites are from copasoap, com and got soap, com. It’s not that it’s so much money, but that I’m in so deep that I would never consider getting commercial soap with fake fragrances ever again!

And here is the answer for anyone wondering why potatoes could be stuff “that others would have a problem with” - “verboten food”. :)

My splurges:

tuition (for the entire family!!!) - many others posting here also splurge on it, so may not belong in this category (at least not for CC posters);

Jimmy Choo shoes - I think 3 inch heels belong in the category of “others would have a problem with”

Whole Foods. (Fresh raspberries in January.) (Tenderloin roast.)
Purebred dogs. (I’m astonished how many people think I’m a bad person because I didn’t get my dogs from rescue.)
Cashmere sweaters.

My mum would probably say she splurged on lots for us three kiddies:

tuition

our ‘activities/sports’ (which ended up paying off… My sister and I are both national champion competitive cheerleaders, she went to play college soccer, I was an Olympic groomed freestyle skier… And my brother a sponsored race car driver)

shoes/clothing if it was a staple piece

good restaurants

I splurge son…

travel/vacations

purses/fashion - biggggg piece of my life :x

champagne/wine/chocolates - when I’m traveling

I dont know why people would have a problem with neighbors hiring lawn and yard service. I think well-kept lawns and gardens add tremendous value to the neighborhood.

In my dogs first class at puppy kindergarten the teacher commented that it was unfortunate people buy purebred dogs instead of adopting one at an animal shelter. Ouch! Everyone in the class looked at each other uncomfortably since we all had purebred dogs.

I am thinking really hard. My tastes are really simple and plain.

-Beautiful quartersawn oak trim, millwork and doors by Amish sawmill and installed by real
master finish carpenters/craftsmen. Hand finished in 6 steps by me. Love.my.woodwork.

-Purebred Boer goats. Usually you get what you pay for in the livestock world.

-John Deere prof-grade Zero turn riding mower - brand new and not used. Think it will
be wonderful. No one here uses yard people and we have 5 acres to mow.
