What do you think of my essays?

-1st essay: didn’t go to Chinese school despite mom’s urging as little kid, met grandparents for first time in 9 years and couldn’t communicate. learned chinese through music and subtitles on music videos. opened my eyes to the world

-2nd essay: met my dad for first time in 9 years. me as a kid, how i had to make my advice and grow in absence of dad. interests: astronomy, chess, music that came out of it. personal quality: open mind and make most of any situation. flashback over, i’m with my dad and he’s successful but i’ve going to do my own thing

supplementary info:
-founder + pres of two clubs, astro and chess
-low income, raised by single mom
-very prestigious boarding school in west
-2270 sat

These topics are strong as long as you have a developed plan of what you want to write. The second essay will tell admissions more about yourself and the environment you grew up in, but the first accents the lessons you have learned very well.
What field are you thinking of studying? If you are going into foreign relations than your first essay will highlight this. To me the second topic is more related to mathematics: chess, astronomy, etc.

thanks autlewien!
anyone else?

bump bumpbumpity

It seems really interesting! Just make sure the essays are not redundant not in what they say but in what emotions they convey to the reader. And when talking about “opening your eyes to the world”, be careful not to be too clich
