I play guitar and do some other artistic things but I did not to write the short essay (250 words) on my artistic talent. Instead, I was thinking about one of my hobbies which is reading.

The weird thing about my reading activity is that, in the past two years, I mainly read news articles. I say it is weird because I start to do it since I was ten and not many people get interested in the news when they are ten. I spend at least two consecutive hours reading the news every day and I would constantly check to see if there any new article. I would go from Yahoo, Reuters and all the media outlets. My parents would always bring me a bunch of newspapers from work(they still do it and I still love it). My cell phone is not technologically advanced but I am happy because I get CNN and ABC on it. I don’t read the news because I believe what is written but I just love to be informed on what’s going on around the world. That’s not my essay but that’s what I would like to write about. I read everything, sport, weird news, financial, you name it. When I was young, I was the only kid at home who would watch the news with mom and dad
Any thoughts?

I guess you will have to some how really bring it home… reading being such a widespread activity… and dont repeat things. I dont really like the present version… you are just telling them i like reading boring stuff … over and over you say that using different words…the problem with this approac is that at best it convinces the adcom tht you like reading news articles … they will not assume all the good things it has done for you. you will have to show them.

sephirothx, did you drink two barrels of vodka? Somebody needs to get more buzz

When I read #5, I thought: Oh, what? Did you just write the end of your life?
sweet , you would make a huge favor to the world and the Dalai Lama would
give you posthumously his Ramon Magsaysay award for bravery and public service.
LOL

Definitely do not integrate “I” as much as the rough sketch above. Focus on a single story that captured your attention and created this connectivity between you and news.

could be interesting, but only if you make it specific and tell a story. otherwise, you’ll just end up repeating things, and/or being vague. good luck

Hmm, it could be interesting. Do you think that reading for information as opposed to entertainment, has made you a person to notice detail? Has it made it easier for you to separate fact from fiction, has it made you notice trends (in economy or whatever news you read), or made you a more analytical person likely to notice appeals, subjective information, and fallacies? What you want to avoid is simply telling a story. You want to tell a story yes, but you what to subtly say how reading news has made you into the person you are-- how it has contributed to your qualities, flaws, personality, other interests, how it sets you apparent from other etc. You also may want to include how this “weird” activity as you call it, had an impact on you as a child–how it made you different to other kids your age. You may want to juxtapose the story you’re gonna tell, with how you are now…you want them to make a connection between your activity and your personality.
