I am considering attending UC Davis and I wanted to hear from current students about what they think of UCD. What do you like and dislike? Do you have any advice that will help me decide?
Thanks!

Like:
Campus. It’s huge, but it’s really nice.
Some of the people. I don’t say all because just like anywhere, you’ll find people you like and people you don’t click with.
The dorms. I live in Cuarto and we have our own pool/hot tub! And a common room!
Some classes. I’ve had some really interesting and knowledgeable professors.

Dislike:
Davis Winters. They’re pretty intense.
The lack of a consistent party scene for the freshman class. Some weeks you’ll have 6 or 7 parties to choose from, other weekends you’ll be lucky to find a single open door. But, there’s good times to be had if you look for them. Davis is not a boring town.

it’s from 2007 and…

like:
–> the fact that internship opportunities are all over the place. seriously. i love this!
–> the arc. <3
–> the quad. it’s a great place to study on sunny days/nap between classes.
–> the people! generally nice and friendly.
–> farmer’s market, twice a week! (saturdays and wednesdays.)

ambivalent:
–> classes at davis. there are some really amazing profs, some eh profs, and some omgbbqsauce! profs. and yes, you will (unfortunately) encounter at least one omgbbqsauce! prof during your tenure at davis. i wish we could get rid of these profs… because they’re clearly not interested in teaching.

dislike:
–> large classes, especially as a science major. the smallest class i’ve ever been in with a science prof. was 20 people, and even then i had to apply to get it (it wasn’t offered as a general course).
–> there is no nightlife. period. after ten, it’s really hard to get something to eat. :(

really? no nightlife? oh darn I’ll sleep it off haha.

I love UCD. The professors are really nice and no matter how much they make fun of you in class, they’re always willing to help you out if you stop by their office hours. Davis is your quintessential college town and so it’s fun without being too crazy.

I’d have to respectfully disagree with the posts above–it’s not that Davis has no nightlife–rather, it’s that Davis nightlife functions differently than your average bustling nightlife-ridden city like SF or NYC. People generally start drinking 9-10pm, go out around 10-11:30 pm, and cops call off parties at around 2. I love the nightlife here and parties are pretty fun. Freshman year you mostly go to fraternity parties and such, and as you get older house parties and bars become the norm. It’s fun! :)
