This is my essay for the Oct. 4 essay about compromise.

In today’s economy, there exists a nearly endless amount of desires and a limited number of resources. According to Adam Smith, the father of economics, human beings are self-interested and want to attain the greatest amount of satisfaction with the limited ways of accomplishing this. As such, compromise is a necessity to ensure everyone involved is fully satiated. Two examples to illustrate compromise as necessary are the characters Jenny Grace and Keenen Grant in the novel One Last Chance by Joanna Heirstein and contemporary principles of economics in everyday situations.
In the first example, One Last Chance, two characters Jeny Grace and Keenen Grant enter a music-playing competition and emerge victorious. However, the two of them were ambivalent about how to split their prize, which was a music playing device. Jenny aserted that she never owned such an item and really wanted that one, while Keened, on the other hand, felt that he deserved it. In the end ,they reached a compromise: Keenen gave Jenny his old mp3 player and he kept the new one. Now, both people are happy: Jenny now has a music player while Keened has a new one. They are both content with this deal, which only happened as a result of compromise.
The second example is an issue of economic principlies in everday lives. Recently, the prices of gasoline have skyrocketed, reaching nearly 4 dollars a gallon. Because gasoline prices are so outrageous, consumers looked for other ways of transportation: walking, biking, or running. Gas companies such as Sunoco, saw that their profit margins were declining, so the companies decided to try and find more sources of gasoline to lowere their prices. Once again, both parties, consumers and suppliers are satisfied: gas componies still earn a plethora of money by working diligently to obtain new sources, and consumers save some money, even if prices are more expensive than they were before.
Compromise is a necessary action in today’s society filled with proliferating possibilites. As seen in the aforementioned examples, Jenny Grace and Keenen Grant, as well as gas compinies and consumers, would not have beeh happy had it not been for compromise, rendering compromise as crucial.

I already know what I got on this, but I am curious, what do you think this deserves as a grade? I will post what I actually got after a few responses.

A 2, and if you’re lucky, maybe a 3.

I didn’t like the Jenny and Keenen example (too random…mp3 players?) so I gave it a 9. If it was a stronger example I’m sure you’d get an 11-12.

I would give it a 4 out of 6. I think both of your examples are not the greatest.

nine/twelve

haha lmao i made up the book
I ended up getting a ten out of twelve.
