what do you think?

I’m an Asian female attending school at Forest Hills HS in NYC. I’m an average student, SAT score was a 1700 (1080 CR+M). My GPA is probably somewhere around a (I’m not sure, transcripts weren’t available for juniors) 2.9-3.0 (3.1-3.2 weighted). I’ll have some time to bring the grades up. I do a lot of volunteering and I am active in two clubs at school. I also have two internships and a part-time job in the upcoming school year (my senior year). I’ve also worked in my junior year and recommendation letters shouldn’t be a problem for me.

My reach/target schools:

Binghamton University (applying EOP) (reach)

Ohio University (No, not OSU!) (major: entering as undecided or possibly as a business major) (early action)

Stony Brook University (applying EOP)

SUNY Plattsburgh (applying EOP)

Brooklyn College (CUNY)

University of New Hampshire (Durham)

Safeties:

City College (CUNY)
John Jay College (CUNY)
College of Staten Island (CUNY)

(CUNYs are all under one app, six schools per app. for one fee, for anyone who was wondering why I would apply to so many schools)

I was wondering what other schools I may have a chance with/how I’d fare with ^ schools. Thanks! : )

bump…

Those are a lot of OOS schools which means a very tuition and not a lot of scholarships available to you - especially since your GPA isn’t too stellar. I’d stick to in-states unless you’re loaded with cash. And if possible, try and retake the SATs this fall aiming for at least a 1950 - it’s possible with books & practice! Best of luck :]

the only OOS schools I have listed ^ are OU, & UNH lol
thank you for the suggestions!
I’ve taken the SAT twice and both scores and my PSAT score were exactly the same- 1700 for all 3 tests.
Should I retake the SAT or think about taking the Sept. ACT?

bump…

I would retake the SAT one last time in october.

I would definitely try your hand at the ACT in the fall. I’m sorry, I do not know much about your schools to chance you. In the “Colleges” section of College Confidential you can look up a specific school and then go to “Applicant Stats” to see other members who listed their GPA an SAT scores, if you are curious how others compare to you.

Thank you, guys!
