What do you use for house shoes/slippers for indoor use that also works with stairs?

I am from a family that never wore shoes in the house, as is my H. Our children also take their shoes off at the door. None of us wears anything other than socks or bare feet in the house. GD always takes off her socks so that she doesn’t slip.

Shoes? Um, indoor, always barefoot. Sometimes leave flip flops on but we do check our shoes at the door in the laundry room so keep floors pretty clean. Sometimes will wear nonslip slipper socks (free from hospital procedures) during very cold winter where my kitchen floor may be cool but honestly, typically my feet are “denude”.

We are barefoot indoors in homes in HI. When we are at my relative’s home in CA, he has an assortment of footwear one can choose from—old bedroom slippers, flip flops, etc. We are generally there only a week and it works well enough for us. His floor is cold due to tile floors. The cold goes right through the socks. Sometimes I even remember to pack my own bedroom slippers when we visit my BIL.

Unfortunately outside I usually wear shoes that tie. There lies the issue. Also I go outside a lot.

My indoor shoes are Vionics and Birkenstocks. I’m barefoot often in warmer months.

I have three levels, so lots of stairs, and am now considering that an indoor sneaker may be a smart purchase.

I wear a pair of Brooks running shoes that are dedicated to the indoors. Usually put them on first thing and head to the basement for a workout. I also have some decent slippers with an arch. The Vionics posted upthread by BB look awesome- that’s a great brand.

I learned the hard way long ago that I cannot go barefoot for long periods.
And my dog- he likes to walk right over my feet😩

I was barefoot all of one minute and our dog stepped on my foot (large dog and plenty of bruising).

There are quite a few shoes that are pretty easy to slip on nowadays. I have removed laces of some shoes and replaced them with elastic so I don’t have to keep retying them. I can just slip on my Hokas — no need to tie and untie. With the black elastic “laces” on my SAS walking shoes, I can slip them on & off too.

I just scrubbed my older keen sandals that I used to hike in- but the thread is no longer good for hiking. I think it will be good for indoors. I will try on the orders from amazon in the next week and see if my alternatives look good, also.

I replaced the laces with elastic on a pair of my shoes also. Worked great! The elastics came with a sorta clunky plastic tie off but I just tied knots in the elastic and cut them off after threading instead. Looks a lot sleeker.

My daughter-in-law loves these for indoors, and my son wears the same brand. They wear them a LOT (they are WFH 3 days a week)

My husband has LL Bean wicked good slippers, and he has one color for outside, and another for inside.

I wear these most of the time indoors. My favorites were rainbow colors, but they don’t seem to have them right now.

I have designated indoor footwear…On sneakers for the treadmill and Oofos slippers (1 slide for when I wear socks, 1 thong for warm weather).

I can’t walk without shoes. It’s always uncomfortable for me. My solution is not to overthink it. Just get an extra pair of shoes that I’d like to wear outside, for in the house. No fussing around trying to find “a good indoor shoe.” Any shoe is an indoor shoe if you, you know , only wear it indoors.

Me too…and I also have Uggs slippers and Vionic slippers. All work well indoors! And on stairs.

I used to just wear socks, til issues with plantar fasciitis. Now I often wear Oofos flip flops or Easy Spirit travel time clogs

Sometimes I wear my outdoor footwear indoors. But never my “gardening shoes” (one pair at front door, one pair at back door - old beater shoes, usually slip in)

I love Haflinger hard-soled slippers so much, that I have a pair in both of our homes. My husband loves the pair I gave him at Christmas.

The elastic I have for my shoes is the fatter elastic I originally bought for making cloth masks, when there were insufficient masks for our healthcare professionals. Once there were enough for others to buy and we learned cloth masks aren’t very protective, I decided they are great for other purposes, like replacing shoelaces. You can double knot the lace and don’t have to worry about untying or retying.

I used elastic similar to this.

Another OOFOS wearer here. Mine are only for use inside my house. When it is cold, I switch to my Bombas slippers.

When it’s warm I’m barefoot. When it’s cold I wear LL Bean wicked good slippers. I don’t understand the stairs part of the question.
