We have hardwood floors. So far, I’ve had no foot problems being barefoot all the time indoors. H does notice that Luxury Vinyl Tile floors that LOOK like wood are much harder on his feet than our hardwood floors that have plywood underneath. H does wear indoor slippers in the house—started around age 70 or so. He says padded indoor slippers are kinder to his feet. The kids and I prefer bare feet.
My first bout of plantar fasciitis was cured by starting to wear Birkenstocks around the house. I had tried being barefoot, but as I spent hours per day on my feet, it started hurting. Over time, I have evolved to the rubbery ones. They accompany me on any trip. I run up and stairs all day long and feel they give sufficient traction for my wooden stairs and cement basement. Occasionally, at times like Thanksgiving where I am on my feet for hours, I switch to some indoor clean runners or exercise shoes.
Now that I’m cured of PF, I spend a good bit of time barefoot. Part of what cured me is the PT exercise of raising to tip toes 30 times on each foot, which strengthens the arch and spreads the toes.
I love Vionic shoes and had not realized they made slippers. I might switch to them when my felted clogs wear out. I wear these in the winter Women's Slippers | Footwear at L.L.Bean and in the summer I wear a flip flop with arch support. Both are plenty grippy, but as I get older I think something with a back might be safer.
So, got 2 slippers and 3 different type of crocs to try on from amazon. Two of the crocs were way too wide and the ballet one did not have enough stabilization for me. But, I really liked it. So, those just got returned.
I kept both slippers- am designating one for kids in home only. The other one for me at home. I tried the shoeless thing for a couple of days at home- I think I go out of the house about once an hour for something. It did not work well.
I ordered stretchy normal looking shoe laces I’m going to try when they come in.
