I love my thermapen. Have given several as gifts to in-laws, most recently to niece when we stayed at her house this summer. It’s something people feel guilty about buying for themselves but everyone can use it and loves it. King Arthur charges no shipping and I think Cooks had it as their special once - they occasionally run a single item at discount for a couple days.
Garland, wishing the best for your D (and the rest of the family).
I would like the ability to ban all political posts from my Facebook feed, so that I could continue to “follow” my friends, to see their posts about their personal lives, without having to also see rants (from both sides of the political spectrum) , re-posts of false information and general nastiness.
But since that isn’t going to happen, I’d like my family to get together long enough to get a good photo of us all, in which we are all smiling nicely, all of us are looking in the same direction, all of us have our eyes open, nobody’s zipper is down, nobody is making a weird face, and all of us are happy with the result.
1214mom – Hawaii sounds great!
garland – fingers crossed for some happy news. It’s got to be tough for them to try again after a miscarriage. I hope it turns out well.
I want time with my kids, and I really really want my future step-daughter to get a job. A year out of college and she’s completely frozen, living at home, unable (or unwilling) to act. That’s all I really want.
Please…I just want my son to find a job. That’s all.
I had no idea that Christmas and Hanukkah overlap this year. We get to kill two birds with one stone.
I want the All Clad pasta pot - the one with the strainer.
You’ve been good this year, little emilybee
I think Santa should come through for you
Hoping for a PAC-12 championship for the WSU Cougars, my adopted home team here in WA given I went to a D3 back east. Smooth sailing with W’s sale of a bunch of left over office equipment. Good results for S2’s applications. Not getting laid off by the new corporate overlords. Please, no more stuff that I have to fit into my house.
Boo, hiss, @Magnetron, they have to get by CU this Saturday, and they will NOT! A group of 20 of us from my college days is going to the game. We’re feeling lucky as we got the 1:30 start instead of the 8 pm slot. (We’re too old to be out that late at night).
And Kwanzaa!
They can lose to CU Saturday @twoinanddone , just have to beat UW in the Apple Cup, then the two will meet again.
@eastcoascrazy – as the family photographer, I will say you are asking for the impossible. I try to take a photo of the extended family once a year. Just trying to get them all outside to stand still and look at the camera…Everyone has an explanation for why he will be right out as soon as xyz, or why do we have to go outside to take the photo or the baby needs a diaper changed…
I clear the background, set up the camera on its tripod, remind myself how the remote works…and decide to be happy with whatever I end up with. My fingers will be crossed for you!
We are a mixed religion family. I am Jewish and the kids were all raised as Jews, but H is Catholic and Christmas is important to him. I am thrilled this year that Hanukah and Christmas overlap.
I want reassurance that S12 is doing ok emotionally. It doesn’t look like he will graduate, in fact, he is probably being expelled for academics after this semester, but the worst part is that he’s angry that H called campus security when he didn’t call back quickly enough and now he hasn’t spoken to us in two months. He’s coming home for Turkey week and I hope that he will forgive us. H was doped up from his knee surgery and was in the hospital when he called, so I couldn’t stop him. D has tried to explain it to him but he’s very stubborn.
I want S17 to finish his theater tech portfolio and set up interviews.
I want D to finish getting her SEIT certification and begin working. She has decided that she hates classroom teaching so I am pleased that she is still willing to use her degree.
I want H to recuperate quickly from his upcoming second knee replacement.
I want oldest boy to be made permanent at the post office and to pass his CDL.
I want S14 to figure out what he wants to do with his life and do it. He’s on the slow track at community college.
I want us to be able to financially swap out mom’s house for the one next to us and, most importantly, I want my sister in law to decide NOT to live there.
I want to develop the willpower to lose weight.
I don’t want any things, but I really want people in my house to start throwing things out.
A better president…
Just got the best Christmas present ever: D2’s worrisome symptoms of the past 10 days caused doc to do CT scan to r/o brain tumor. Symptoms identical to dear friend’s daughter’s, which turned out to be a fatal glioblastoma. Got the results tonight, and it’s simply “severe migraines.” I never would have thought I would be so overjoyed to hear those words, but yes, feeling like the luckiest Mom in the world. Everything after this is gravy.
After putting on my brave face for the past week, I’m now going to go into my room and have a good cry.
Hug your kids.
I am usually the purchaser not the receiver of gifts however this would be nice to have. Looks interesting.

Yes, we had some imaging tests to rule out a brain tumor in my kiddo some years back for recurrent nausea. Fortunately, no tumors and time and age has improved things. Hug your kids and relatives, indeed!
Wow Nrdsb4 – that IS worth crying (in relief) over! You must have been so worried! Classmate of DD’s had the same thing (fatal glioblastoma). So glad it’s “just” severe migraines which are debilitating on their own. I now travel with Excedrin migraine in my purse.
D will have an MRI next week just to be sure a very small tumor wasn’t missed by CT. But given the severity of her symptoms, doc said likelihood is high that if a tumor was causing them, it would have been big enough to show up on CT.
We’ll go forward with the MRI, but we all feel really good about things. Not that migraines are a good thing, and being a grad student, she really doesn’t have time for them, but we’ll take that any day over cancer.
If you want the Thermapen make sure you order it from the ThermoWorks site. http://www.thermoworks.com/ Resellers on Amazon double the price.
Of course, I went to the ThermoWorks site and ordered extra items.
