I too never thought I’d be thrilled D was only deaf. Ruling out brain tumors certainly puts a different spin on things. Surgery next week, so I want a well kid. Also, I’d love for my two sons both to have Christmas off so we could all be together and awake. They work for the same employer on flipped schedules, so that will not happen, but we will manage.
Good luck! Lots of yummy food will help, right? ![]()
a Bagster https://www.thebagster.com/ in the driveway on Christmas morning, into which DH agrees to deposit enough items from the basement and bedroom floor to fill it up.
Some new casual dinnerware that is microwave safe - really love my luncheon size plates that are getting too chipped but that size is hard to find. Aromatherapy diffuser to see if that helps with sleep and calm.
And I want peace of mind!!! Happiness for daughters (especially youngest making hard choices about continuing school and what that means for her and long distance BF). And will power to get in shape. And Starbucks gift card since I won’t buy expensive coffee on my own dime but love to treat myself.
A pain free year!
As cliche as it sounds, I truly only want continued health and happiness for my family and the resolution of some minor, yet stressful, issues that some of them are facing.
@Nrdsb4 - A great big sigh of relief for you and your D - that is the best gift of all!! My heart goes out to you as we went through a similar thing with our son 2 years ago and it was terrifying. He was also having severe headaches, which led us down the CT and MRI path. Our neurologist also told us that the MRI was just more assurance - he too was confident a tumor causing pain would show up on the CT. Continued good health to her and hope she gets some relief from the migraines.
Botox for my armpits.
And a new laptop.
Botox for your armpits? Is that a thing? Are you worried about wrinkly armpits?
@nottelling it makes you not sweat.
Normally I roll my eyes a bit at this… (is it really a present?). But I do not need more stuff. I am going to ask my kids to make donations to organizations that I think are going to help offset some of what I see going on around in the world that is making me upset right now. I just made a bunch of donations of my own (decided to think of it as “tithing” for the foreseeable future), and I actually feel so much better. So… what would make me feel better for Christmas? Them to spend their money in a similar way instead of on stuff for me (but I will still take the coffeecake from my dad mentioned earlier).
@MotherOfDragons – Ah! Makes more sense. (Although part of me was enjoying the thought that you were thinking: “If I could just get rid of these armpit wrinkles, life would be perfect.”)
Yes, yes, @intparent. Not all mine (incl SOs) will be here the 24th/25th, but I’d love for us to do some good deeds.
D2 already hit the mark on a less civic level. I’ve been asking for some little local day trip as a group and she came up with a holiday event at a historic village in the area. Just right.
I just found out I will have all my loved ones under one roof this Christmas, so my gift is done. Together we will go donate blood as a family. Up to 15 patients in need may benefit from this super easy act. Below is a link to some interesting facts. Maybe some of you will join the 10% club…it’s estimated that 38% of the US population is eligible to donate, but only 10% actually do. http://m.redcrossblood.org/learn-about-blood/blood-facts-and-statistics.
25th Anniversary Edition of R.E.M.'s Out of Time (remastered original, outtakes and a live show)
I want a gas fire pit for the back patio
We have a wood burning fire pit but ugh…the smoke and the pain of getting it going and then feeling like it has to be an hour long event to justify the hassle!! I was at a friends house the other night and she has a new one and it was sooo nice just to flick it on and then off like 20 minutes later.
@carachel2 , we have a wood burning pit too and I don’t really enjoy it anymore. It’s hard to get the smoke smell out of my hair and if there is any wind at all, I can’t sit near it at all
Question: Is a marshmallow toasted over gas going to taste as good, though?
Thank you for the ThermoPop idea. I bought one for myself before Thanksgiving and I love it. So very fast.
I love that it turns itself off. I always forgot with my old thermometer and needed to replace the battery frequently.
@lje62 --you need to look at the gas fire pits and tables! IDK why they had never occurred to me before–they aren’t crazy expensive and I think without the hassle of the fire and smoke I would use it a lot!
OMG–I can’t say this anywhere else and it’s very, very early, but it seems like I might be getting my dearest wish this Christmas (see upthread, post 30, and send all good thoughts that things go well, I’m just going to sit here and smile.)
