What do you wear on your legs in 70 degree weather?

“Well, that’s true. My kids insist on wearing shorts in the winter and long pants in the summer!”

Of course, to help differentiate oneself from the people who “come from away”.

My husband wears, shorts, compression socks, and sandals. Anywhere else, it would look a little odd, being, “Socks and sandals man”, but in Seattle, he looks completely normal.

Am I the only one who hates maxi dresses? Unless you are model tall and thin, I think they make everyone else look dumpy - even if they aren’t.

If they are shaped like a sack - yes! If they have a nice neckline and fit well and are not poufy, they are not dumpy at all. The Modcloth dress I have has a black bodice and patterned skirt. People keep asking me where I got it. That dress is my go to travel dress to be worn on airplanes.

Alas, some non-models look great in an inexpensive sack (ish) dress. Not me. Nor could I do that maxi, BB.

Otoh, sometimes a summery (peasant-y?) skirt and slinky top. Hmm. Been a while.

Well, I can’t do linen pants. I am allergic to wrinkled fabric. I hate that linen wrinkles in the crotch and butt areas and draws attention to them, so the pants have to be worn with a longish top to cover the unsightiness. Might as well wear leggings!

I vote for capris, especially if you’re just hanging out around the house. I know they are much-maligned in some circles, but they are comfy and just cool enough. I also wear them shopping and to casual restaurants when highs are 70-85 or so. However, I do draw the line at wearing my sneakers with them. That just looks too matronly even for me.

How about a bermuda short???

I also like my Athleta skorts.

Ankle pants and a flowy top is also an option. Pants like these:

I have lightweight cotton capris. Seems here when it’s in the 70’s it can still be super humid. Or I’ll wear shorts with a pullover top.

Not sure of your price range, but Nordstrom sells a nice line of light weight denim’ish leggings and pants. They’re elastic waist, too! I have a pair in white and love them.

I hate anything linen, too, because 2 minutes sitting down and you are a wrinkled mess. I decided long ago not to buy anything linen even if I loved something.

I think looking back at pictures in 15-20 years maxi dresses are going to be one of those “what was I thinking!” moments (like looking back now at the pictures when they were first in style.)

I think capris came back after so many started wearing the calf length athletic leggings in public.

BB, you know nearly no one’s looking at your “area” wrinkles, right?

I like the slightly wrinkled look in linen, btw. I figure, if it’s ok in southern France, fine by me. Lol. Good posture can overcome a lot.

I wear linen pants with a drawstring waist. Very comfortable

OP, if your friends weren’t coming for the weekend, what would you be wearing around the house and yard???

I like Maxi dresses with thin straps, when it’s hot, off comes the cardigan, if it cools down, cardigan on.
I used to wear a lot of capris, but have devolved into capri length yoga pants (the quality brands) as I am very active throughout most days and those work for being active and based on all the other women at Costco, they are still approved shopping attire.

Either people are lying to me or this does not happen with the dresses I choose. I have, shall we say, an athletic build, so not slim & slight, nope, big bones & muscly & no waist, I have been straight up and down all my life, not just in middle age.
Slim straps, empire waist, not too big and flowy, more fitted upper body, & I get a lot of compliments.

@abasket …I’d keep changing clothes…haha. But we are going there, so don’t want to do that. I always think maxi dresses have a bit more dressed up feel, even casual ones. We will be at their lake house, so don’t intend on wearing that. It will be downright chilly in the morning, heating up to the low 70’s late afternoon. If I can’t find flowy looking linen or linen blend bottoms, I do have a pair of white or beige long cotton capris to wear that will work.

I wear capris most of the year, and ankle pants in the winter. Most are a stretchy blend with elastic waist. I wear tunic tanks, short-sleeved and long-sleeved tops most of the time. At some point I must have decided I don’t really like pant legs around my ankles and to the ground.

How about long skirts in a no wrinkle knit? Costco had them one year for low prices. I also like jeggings and long t-shirts or tunics. I’ve been living in jeggings and shorts this long humid summer. I forgot about the skirt but may start wearing that again as well. Jeans ARE too heavy and hot! Last night I wore a sleeveless dress and brought a light cardigan to a birthday dinner. It was just right. Needed the sweater because H was blasting the A/C in the van while we drove his 2 friends. I was perfectly comfortable at the restaurant the rest of the evening without the sweater.
