What does a career as an editor entail? Should I consider pursuing it?

Few questions.

Is it possible to edit fiction only?

Is my range limited? Could I tidy up a film script, and then proceed to review a novel?

Would I only revise grammatical errors, or could I also suggest dialogue/plot points (without necessarily writing the story)?

Writing is fantastic, but I don’t enjoy creating my own universe/characters. It’s the parameters created by others that I love working with and could absorb all of my time into. Would an editing career suit these interests?

Thanks so much! :)

Yes it is possible to edit fiction only, you’ll probably want to work for a publishing house for a couple of years to do this and then work on a freelance basis. Just know that the editing/publishing industry has shrunk rapidly over the last few years and there’s fewer and fewer jobs available - but still a lot of people applying to them. You may want to consider a more in demand job to secure a financially stable future. Healthcare is one of the few industries that’s actually booming and some of the most in demand and highest paying healthcare jobs can be found here - [5 Healthcare Degrees that Pay Well | Degrees In Health Care](http://blog.degreesinhealthcare.org/2012/10/30/5-healthcare-degrees-that-pay-well/)
