What does a good PSAT score offer?

I am preparing for the PSAT that I will take as a sophmore, and I have heard that if I do well on this test, I will be given a National Merit Scholarship.
What is this award, and how does it benefit me?

The award is not presented to sophomores. However, if you’re ready come time you become a junior, there are rewards for performing exceptionally on the exam.

Also, you may want to hold off until you’re like halfway through your sophomore year, because that’s usually the time that most sophomores (maybe not you) have accumulated all of the knowledge through their curriculum that they need for the test.

Sophomore PSAT scores aren’t that big a deal, although, they do serve as a nice foundation to get started  .

Sophomores have to take the PSAT at the same time as Juniors. It’s the same test. You can’t “wait” to take it - unless it’s just a practice test.
