What does "Departmental Distinction" even mean?

I’m planning to transfer to UIC next semester and in the guides I see requirements to graduate with departmental disctinction or high departmental distinction. However, it doesn’t say anywhere what these things even mean. What are the benefits of graduating with Departmental Distinction? I’ve looked everywhere and googled and nothing tells me what the benefits are.

DD means you maintain a certain gpa for course in a particular subject (usually the coures in your major). it shows up on your diploma and it demonstrates that you have done especially well in your chosen field of study. so yes, i would say graduating with DD does have benefits, at least in applying for jobs and schools as is your case. and who cares about the particular benefit? if UIC requires DD, then you meet that requirement by getting DD (ask your advisor about it) so that UIC will consider you.
