<p>I think it adds credits toward graduation requirement, in that to graduate, you need a certain number of units to graduate.</p>
<p>Wille has it right. Elective credits count toward the 180 hours needed to graduate, but they don’t fulfill any of your major or GE requirements (so they’re of limited utility).</p>
<p>Elective credit is nice because the more units you have the earlier you register!</p>
