Can someone out there define emo? What is the stereotypical “emo” guy? Is it attitude, clothing, activities?

from what I’ve heard, it’s kind of like gothic (as in wearing lots of dark/black colors). guys wear really skinny jeans and sometimes those women’s coats with the fur trim around the hood. And some wear women’s jeans

I don’t think they are necessarily gay, though.

Doubleplay, in google you can type this:

define: emo

and here’s your result set:

<a href=“define: emo[/url] - Google Search”>define: emo - Google Search;

If you want tons of information, go to www.jux2.com, type in emo, you get more than you ever wanted to know about it:

http://www.jux2.com/best.php?q=emo

And, sadly, the above definition is so true it isn’t even that funny.

The Emo guys I’ve seen look like girls - no offense intended to anybody.

And here I thought that EMO meant Extra Man Offense … a hockey or lacrosse term …

Tomorrow!! Tomorrow!! Tomorrow is my son’s first lacrosse scrimmage in college!! We aren’t psyched or anything (can’t you tell!) – but one does wonder why if it’s a spring sport and the groundhog didn’t see his shadow, why am I wearing every bit of warm clothing I own to go watch him play!!

It sucks when I go to buy jeans at the store only find that they’re out of that style and/or size, only to later be walking down the street and see a guy wearing the exact pair of jeans I want.

Or worse, when my roommate had a guy friend over and they were not only wearing the SAME pants (his tighter than hers) but also the same zip-up hoodie, which I’d recently seen in the girls section of American Eagle.

kids, don’t worry - your secret is safe from me.

Quintessential emo:

My oldest D and my son’s gf made their own spoof of this. I have NEVER seen anything more hilarious in my entire life!!! It’s ROLLIN’ on the floor funny! :D

~berurah

b-

That is SUPURB!! I’m still laughing.

-dig

EMOtional.

berurah-LOL!! That was hysterical!

I’ve never really been able to figure out all the groups in our school.
I asked my D’s friend for the HS definitions- He was kind enough to email me these. Made sure to tell me that Emo is NOT the same as Indie. Apparently he’s indie
Emo-Short for emotive music, started out as hardcore, got slowed down over the years, famous bands include Jimmy Eat World, The Get Up Kids, Bright Eyes, and Cursive. It’s gotten to be all warped and stupid because of the resurgance of ‘hardcore’ and ‘screamo’ which is all really annoying and they sound like their throats are bleeding and the music work is bad and now you’ve got all these kids with side-ways haircuts and “fashion mullets” who wear $30 studded belts from the mall and little kids clothes and the boys who wear girls jeans and make up. And there’s gay bands like Hawthorn Heights (barf) and Taking Back Sunday and bands that are actually pretty good like My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy.

Indie-stands for independent. Like bands signed to independent labels, not big wig labels. Not stuff you hear on the radio. The artists are able to have more creative freedom than major label artists, so it’s more free-spirited. Bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, We Are Scientists etc are popular indie bands. It’s also a certain genre of film, meaning basically the same thing as the music term, no big productions or special effects. Indie kids wear a lot of “vintage”.

Berurah, that is one of the funniest things I’ve seen!! Whoever does those videos is spot on!
The sad thing is, I work up at our hs, and I know lots of girls who act JUST LIKE THIS. I guess it comes with the territory- spoiled, self-obsessed, attention seeking. Since they don’t have any REAL problems, they make them up.

I hate to show my age. Well, actually, that was blown all to hell when I posted in the what are you listening to thread. But can somebody explain the difference between what is called “emo” now and what was “goth” back in the day?

OMG, doubleplay, you are spot ON!!! My girls go to school with quite a few of these types of kids. As I said above, my oldest D and my son’s gf (they’re best friends) did a beyond HILARIOUS spoof of Hope (and there’s another emo kid, Lars, who has a similar site) that had me literally crying and my muscles hurting from laughing so hard!

~berurah

I admit I don’t really know what EMO is- other than it seems a criticism rather than a description, but this picture is so EMO to me

[That FACE!](Charles Peterson photo: vedder_daily — LiveJournal) :D

[Blame it on Fugazi](http://www.laweekly.com/music/rock-and-roll-love-letter/i-come-to-your-emo-tional-rescue/12431/)

Emo isn’t a “what”, its a “who”. He is a comedian- Emo Philips, with a very strange sense of humor http://www.emophilips.com/home

here’s a link on wikipedia ( he has a new “look”- no longer has that pageboy haircut)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_Philips

OMG!!! That was sooo funnny Berurah!!! I sent it to my sons and my friends who have high school aged kids.
:D

Well, I don’t know any emo kids, but they seem pretty harmless to me.
