What does GTS-AASU mean?

Unfortunately, I was rejected from GT. But i want to know what Denied Admission GTS-AASU stand for?

Just depressed. I had decent SAT for GT and 3.7 GPA.

hope it helps a little, “Given the many qualified applicants we receive, class size, and degrees offered, we are able to offer you admission to the Georgia Tech Savannah campus but unable to offer you admission to the incoming class in Atlanta.”

I had SAT score of 1970 (750 Math, 650 writing, 570 Reading). SAT II of 720 math II, 710 math 1, 630 physics.

I guess i was unqualified for the college of enginnering.

Big disapointment.

Congrats all for people who got in.

They admitted you to Armstrong State University. It’s a 2/2 with the college of engineering, so you transfer to Tech after your associates’ degree.

Thank you for the reply.

But I don’t think I will go Arm Strong State University.

I will decide between Purdue, UGA, UIUC, the colleges that I have been accepted to

college of engineering. Plus waiting 4 more colleges.

I really wanted to go to GT if I was accepted.

Sigh.

I just searched AASU on collegeboard, and i realized the school is very low in level, such as SAT. They have 450-550 CR and 450-550 Math.

I doubt people will go to this school who applied to college of engineering like me.

Some questions about GTS-AASU:

1) If I go there, do I pay AASU tuition or GT tuition?
2) Can an international student like me get a scholarship from AASU?

You applied to Georgia Tech, not to the College of Engineering. There’s no separate admission process.

And I wouldn’t stick my nose up at AASU. Someone who completes the 2/2 from AASU will have the same degree and opportunity as someone who spent four years at Tech. There are many students that do just that.

I agree. A degree from Tech is a degree from Tech regardless if you do a 2 + 2 program at another college. In the end, you will have a degree from Tech.

I get the OP’s issue - I would rather go to UIUC than a 2+2 at Armstrong State, as well. I just didn’t like the way he talked down to Armstrong State. A college is more than it’s average admissions statistics, especially when it has a special feeder program to a major university.

Actually, it’s Armstrong Atlantic State University now. And, yes sjung87 if you went to AASU you would pay their tuition, etc. I am not sure about the scholarship situation but you can ask. GTech also has a new facility in Savannah and are in the process of actually locating professors here so that they can teach engineering courses. It is not a bad idea to go to Armstrong first, it has very small classes and it’s easier to get through the weed out classes before you transfer to Atlanta. There are many kids in Savannah who do dual enrollment at Armstrong and take calculus and a lab science and Tech accepts all their credits. I have now exhausted my store of knowledge on this issue.

You seem to have great knowledge of Tech issues, so I wanted to reopen this discussion. I have been accepted to Tech as an OOS with aerospace engineering as my major. My stats are just average for Tech but it is my 1st choice. Recently I saw the AASU link and started looking at it. I like the idea of the smaller, coastal campus and smaller classes. Do all AASU 2+2 get accepted at Tech as a junior transfer if they have a decent GPA? It seems like a good idea since you will still have a final degree from Tech, but I kind of worry about the low stats of the other students at AASU. My parents really like the difference in tuition!

You can see the Admission Office’s info here: [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Undergraduate Admission :: Georgia Tech Savannah - Armstrong Program](http://www.admiss.gatech.edu/armstrong/)

I believe you must be accepted to the GTS-AASU program to enter that system. Regular admission to just AASU would require a transfer to Tech, which has certain conditions found here: [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Undergraduate Admission :: Transfer Requirements](http://www.admiss.gatech.edu/transfer/requirements.html)

I am not 100% certain of that, so you should call and ask.

Agreed GP. A few of the GT faculty who went to GT as undergrads actually started at AASU.

I am currently a first-year in college and would like to transfer to Tech. However, I don’t think that I am the most ideal applicant in terms of stats. Although I have college credit, I don’t think I am officially a transfer student (under 30 hrs of credit). Would applying to the Savannah campus increase my chances of acceptance? I currently attend school in Atlanta and wouldn’t mind a change of scenery.

^Does the Savannah campus only apply to Engineering degrees?

I don’t think you can apply directly to GTS as a freshman admit. You would need 30 hours (plus the required GPA and the required courses) to qualify for transfer admission.

Savannah only has engineering (civil and environmental, mechanical, electrical only). It’s a regional engineering program that was setup because Central and South Georgia communities complained that all of the research universities in Georgia are in North Georgia.

Thanks G.P. as always a wealth of knowledge.
