<p>Henry Louis Gates, Jr… He is chairman of Harvard’s African-American Studies Program, and probably the single most respected African-American Studies professor anywhere. First-rate scholar and public intellectual.</p>

At Harvard, Gates teaches undergraduate and graduate courses as the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor, an endowed chair to which he was appointed in 2006, and as Professor of English. Additionally, he serves as the Director of the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research.
