when this university is talked about I’ve heard the word “intense” used about 123985902 times. Will someone quantify this for me. Am I looking at 5 essays a night or does it mean 4 tests in a week or is it 10 hours of studying a night? It’s bugged me that everyone says “intense” and leaves it at that and no one has quantified it.

If you currently are attending or are an alumni, an explanation would be great.

Here is an excerpt from an email they sent out to potential applicants.

In case you haven’t made it to campus just yet, we recently asked some current first and second year students, “What is the Life of the Mind?”

“…intense, but amazing…”

“…a constant reconciliation between what one knows, what one doesn’t know, and the ultimate search for truth…”

“…being able to have an in depth argument about allegory in Gossip Girl and what Freud’s thoughts on that would be…”

So if you keep on asking questions—serious and silly alike—you may experience the same heart-fluttering, butterfly-enticing feeling our current students did when they found UChicago.
