<p>I am stressing about my marks, as I don’t fully understand the conversion and how our marks here in Ontario are evaluated.
I have a 94% average in grade 11 which I thought was okay, but right now my marks are pretty bad. I want to apply to the US of course, so I was thinking of dropping some courses like my 86% in Data Management I have right now (I took AP Calculus and Advanced Functions last year with 96 and 92% respectively). Also, my 100% in AP physics just went down to a 89%, and my Business Management mark is fairly bad at an 88%. My parents are pressuring me not to drop courses as they see it as me giving up at the first sight of failure. I have heard that the 4.0 GPA threshold generally falls between 93-100% of the Ontario mark, plus AP courses are usually given a few bonus percentage (I am taking 5 AP courses out of the 9 courses I’m taking this year [one is online] plus I got a 5 on my BC Calc exam last year already in AP calculus, and that’s all the AP courses my school offers).
Should I be stressing at all? I mean obviously I need to work to get my marks up but am I falling behind?
I think I have decent ECs, a lot of clubs, leadership and entrepreneurship but nothing international big. My SAT results should be about 2250 or higher (I got 2170 last time and the October SAT went fairly well) and I’m writing my SAT IIs in Nov. and they seem quite easy.
Could someone explain how the grade translation works, whether 4.0 is that important, and perhaps calm me down :3</p>
<p>The schools I want to go to include Stanford, Berkeley, and MIT.</p>
