What does it take to get into Governor's School for Life Sciences and Medicine?

I want to for the mentorship next year, but I hear it’s extremely competitive. If you’ve been accepted to the program before, it would be very helpful if you would post what you put on your application. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Are you talking about the Virginia SRGS?

Yes! Yes I am, do you have any suggestions?

I know a person who did it after her sophmore year. She had no APs, just honors, but I bet she put a lot of passion into her application. So, I do not believe courses are the most important things in the application.

I applied for this program and was nominated by my school, but ultimately did not get accepted–I was waitlisted. I thought my application was fairly strong and I talked with my gifted and talented counselor at school and she basically told me that my math score, while good, was probably a bit too low for the program. The people from my school who were accepted into the gov school programs (not just life sciences) were also in our home-based gov school program (I was the only person from my school who applied to life sciences). I didn’t apply/get accepted to my home based gov school until after the application cycle for life sciences was over—I sometimes wonder if being in gov school significantly helps one’s application…You should apply though! It sounds like a really neat program!
