What does it take????

background: junior at large public hs, Asian immigrant but underrepresented, looking at top 25 schools

academic:

3.9 UW 4.9 W GPA, and top of class (approx. 440 students)
many AP classes so most rigorous schedule

ECs (seem pretty average but I’m definitely passionate about them):

varsity soccer
tutoring children
job
President of beta club
VP of FBLA
also in other school clubs
average summer things

Testing: I don’t test very well but I recently took the SAT and expect to get around 1400. I know that if I study hard I can break 1500.

So, I just want to know if I have what it takes to even apply to top tier schools. I guess you really can’t judge without an official SAT score. I know that it’s impossible to tell if you will get into any of these prestigious schools but how do I compare to other students that are also applying? Am I on the right path? If I were to get rejected what would be my downfall?

Your ECs need more padding; try adding more national and even international honors. You are a URM so you do have a hook; your gpa is really good so I would say you are safe there. Try taking subject tests and do well on those.

Wait till you get a real test score. The chance between 1400 and 1500+ are drastically different for top 25 schools.
