what does junior level,no lower division transfers mean?

ive already attended college in japan for 2years and now im taking 2years off and go to community college in cal. am i considered as one of these transfers?

the reason that this is annoying me is that ive seen couple of websites saying that they will only accept junior level transfers, no lower division transfers and i started thinking that i might no be one of these.

thanks in advance

Lower division means you’re in your first two years of college. UCs want students to transfer at a junior level (so that they’ll have two years left after transferring). Students typically apply to UCs towards the beginning of their sophomore (second) year, and actually transfer the year after that.

In more technical terms, “junior level” means you should have 60+ semester credits, or 90+ units if you’re on the quarter system. I don’t know how well the corresponds to international systems. (Also, I don’t know the rules or if it’s still in place, but in the past there’s been some policy about not allowing transfer who had too many credits from another 4-year school, so you may want to look into that.)
